Garage or Lock-up Required

We are moving abroad for a while, probably a year or so, and decided to keep our car off-road for that time. We are therefore looking for somewhere to store it and thought we could also leave some stuff with it if the location is secure. Another nice to have would be an accommodation address for mail to come with it.

Although we are based in BL, when we return we will be in VD, so anywhere in between would work!

Anyone got any recommendations and indicative costs? The car is a nice runner, but is worth so little it is cheaper to keep it off-road than to sell it and buy another one.

You reckon?? You'll be 12mths closer to the dreaded MFK and garaging will cost from around 100chf per month upward - if you can find somewhere out of the way.

When we lived back in the UK for a short period (1 year) we rented a Bastelraum over here and our insurance were happy to use that - so stuff was insured. Double check they'd do the same if you store stuff in the garage. Proper storage is pricey over here.

If you can avoid the MFK now and do it when you are back.
You will be able to register the car once you come back but will be very quickly invited to show the car for MFK. However you should have time to service and prepare it for the MFK. It doesnt make sense to pay for a proper steam clean and MFK only to lose a year while the car is standing.

Copied from a previous thread (rule of thumb, is that if you car has plug-in engine diagnostic capability, then it doesn't need one):

Hi All,

Dont quite know if this has been covered but there are now relaxed rules regarding Abgastests which came into affect 1st Jan 2013:

http://www.tcs.ch/de/auto-mobilitaet...gaswartung.php

If your Car Ausweiss says B04> (example based on my car) then you dont need to have the test done at a garage as the on board computer should tell you when you need to do the test or have issues.

Hope this helps you all or Google Translate will do the trick

Re: Garage or Lock-up Required

https://www.tcs.ch/de/auto-mobilitae...gaswartung.php

__________________________________________________ _____________

Cars and trucks with petrol or gas motors:

No exhaust gas test is now necessary if the vehicle document has in section 72 the remark B03, B04 or a higher number

Cars and trucks with diesel engines:

No test necessary with B04, B5a, B5b stated in section 72 of the car registration document.

I am curious....

The relaxing of the emissions testing is conditional on the On-Board-Diagnostic (OBD) being available. What is the legal situation if the garage does not do the maintenance, or does not read the OBD ? Is the garage now obliged to repair an engine with too higher values of emissions?

Is it noted anywhere? I don't think so.
