Lost key in lausanne - what to do?

I lost my key to my apartment on my commute this morning.
I am currently locked out of my apartment and no idea what to do.
I tried sbb lost and found but even if someone has found it there is a 10 day waiting period.
I tried my regie but apparently I have to write a formal letter and go through another complicated process to formally order a new key to be made.

I have spare keys however they are inside my apartment. I left a window open this morning though (/due to) I live on a high floor so climbing in is an unlikely option.

A locksmith was an idea from one person but I have no idea how to do this or it's cost. It also carries the problem of getting into my apartment building. I'm sure he can pick (I hope it is pick and not destroy? ) my apartment lock but the buildings electronic lock is another issue.

Any ideas of how I can get into my place the quickest possible? I really don't want to have to bother a friend for somewhere to stay for 2 weeks whilst I pray sbb find something.

You can try asking your Hauswart. He may have a master key to all the flats in your building.

Yes, go to your Hauswart. He must have all the keys.

I have found keys / smart phones 3 times in the past few months
and I immediately brought them to the police or SBB.

I never received a thank you from the key loser, but it was
the right thing to do.

https://www.easyfind.com
might be useful, but sounds like you already did this.

Probably you will have to get a locksmith if you wish to enter your apartment tonight. The Hauswart does not necessarily have a spare but will be able to get you access to the building so the locksmith can do their work.

Do you have one of those special banking/credit card packages like Credit Suisse Bonviva. The insurance on this will cover cost of replacement keys, maybe household insurance does this too...?

Re: Lost key in lausanne - what to do?

I managed to get inside my building. But the only neighbour home at the moment is a kid whose flat would present the most dangerous balcony hopping to get in.

Any idea how much a locksmith would cost for a lock pick (to check- they do pick locks right? They don't need replacing totally?)
And any decent ones in lausanne?

At least now I am outside my door so have wifi

do you have a concierge? locksmiths, from what i hear are expensive but it sounds like the only option. once you are in find someone you trust and give them a copy for times like this - good luck!

Re: Lost key in lausanne - what to do?

the lock on these doors are usually not the cost, the cost is the locksmith to install/change the lock. You may need extensive proof or none at all. Hope you get it sorted.

Call a locksmith soon, their fees are more expensive outside office hours.

Re: Lost key in lausanne - what to do?

Even my neighbour who is in doesn't answer their door and I can't seem to get a locksmith from just googling- one no answer, one guy who promised to call back and didn't, and one woman who only spoke French and I think said was a enterprise company.

Re: Lost key in lausanne - what to do?a

Success!
I had just ordered a locksmith and was all set for a huge bill and inconvenience. But a neighbour came at the nick of time and it turns out climbing over the balconies was easier than I thought.
I usually do keep a spare key at work though had to use it last week, from now on I will:

1: keep my key at work at all coasts.
2: close that balcony window. It it was so easy for fat old me in business clothes....

Also I am nicely surprised this swiss neighbour let me do that whereas the Indians upstairs wouldn't answer their door

Re: Lost key in lausanne - what to do?

Thank God all is well for you.

I would suggest to have the second key not at work but in your handbag. I do this and it has helped me out of trouble.

Another good idea is to find a secret place in your cellar, hidden behind your stuff where you can reach from outside, and where no one expects a key.

Or, just leave it with a trusted friend. I would like to leave it at work, but then it wouldn't help if I lose my bunch of keys (which also includes the office key)!

Did you call the locksmith to cancel?

Jumping across balconies does sound like a terrifying feat.

Thanks, I bet the burglars had never thought of that trick...

Most insurance companies will not pay out if there is no sign of a forced entry.

Put the spare key in an envelope, seal it, and ask your neighbour to look after it.

it.
Wow, that's crazy.
How many burglars go around smashing windows? Surely the majority of burglaries are through open windows and the like?
