Laundrycard overcharged! Please Help

I got the bill for my laundrycard but only to find out there are 13 days i did not wash included. Note my days are Saturdays. And i wash only on this day. So i got back to my Mieter he said that the card cannot lie or maybe i left the card. Could it be my card is hacked. Because i make sure i log off. Once i forget it during a waschcycle to go to Migros. But the card was there and i log out after this cycle. This is strange. Could this be hacking or what? Thanks forvyour response.

Re: Laundrycard overcharged! Please Help

Are YOU jocking or serious????????????

wtf do you think happened, your card suddenly raised from its inactive state, walked to the laundry room and inserted itself in the card reader device?

You are the one who knows the situation, if no one had access to your card and you have not used it for that period then, yes, something weird happened. Thanks Mr Holmes.

"hacking", "duplication", "reader device hacked", whatever: you won't understand the technicals behind it anyway.

So make formal written complain to your landlord/agency/ whatever contact you have, report abnomalies and move on!!!

Unless you want us to call X-Files team to investigate? I heard they're coming back soon.

ffs, people, are you washing inside the washing machine or what!?????????

Re: Laundrycard overcharged! Please Help

What do you mean 13 days. do you get charged per day usuage?

How many days or washes did you use it before you got the bill?

Our thingy automatically gets charged to our electric account, but different areas have different systems.

Re: Laundrycard overcharged! Please Help

It is always a 6 months bill. My washdays are Saturdays but this extra 16 days are sundays, mondays and fridays and i never wash these days because I am busy. So seeing the 6months bill cost prompted me to ask for a detailed copy of which i discover these extra 16 days. My landlord response to my email was what i stated above. Now am thinking of buy a maschine machine or a handwash maschine if I am not allowed electric one. Because i don't understand really what has happened if it is hacking or some deal. Inshort i donot what to say to all this.

Re: Laundrycard overcharged! Please Help

How much was your bill for 6 months?

Were there any Saturdays not listed on the bill, that you would have used the machine?

For 16 or 13 days how much was the charge?

Were the charges for each Saturday consistent or did they vary greatly, depending on if you wash the same each Saturday, would it make sense to you or seem a bit strange?

BTW your first post said 13 days, then your reply said 16 days

Re: Laundrycard overcharged! Please Help

"Cards don't lie".

Banks also used to say that it was impossible for someone to make cash withdrawals from your account via ATMs, unless you'd told them your PIN.

You may have a faulty card that incorrectly communicates with the card reader. Someone else's card may be faulty, so that the reader thinks it's yours. The card reader might be faulty so that it registers spurious events. The system that generates the bill could be faulty. There could be two cards registered to one account - or one card registered to two accounts.

Some of these things are more likely than others, but all of them are possible. Hacking is also possible, but seems to me to be the least likely cause.

If you are adamant that you didn't use the card on these days, then don't be fobbed off. Insist on a proper investigation. In the meantime, record carefully what you're doing each day and when you use the machine. So if it happens again you can go "aha! I was on vacation in Neasden on that day, and I've got the plane tickets to prove it.".

The maschine can only be operated with card even if anyone washes on sundays. Every neighbour has theirs.

Re: Laundrycard overcharged! Please Help

Is this the first period that the card's malfunctioned? Try checking previous bills for odd dates.

If you're absolutely positive that you (or someone else in your household) didn't used the card on the 13 odd days listed on the statement, at the very least insist that the agent/landlord issue you with a new card.
And perhaps put a tiny mark somewhere on the old one with indelible pen to ensure they don't simply give you the old one back pretending it's new!

Re: Laundrycard overcharged! Please Help

Cross-check the fridays, mondays, with the bills of those persons who got allocated those washing days. There may be double-assignments (two persons pay for the same day) or non-assignments even though they did wash. Perhaps also check if they are to pay for fridays even though you seem to use that day exclusively and, I guess, never noticed anybody else washing. Also, have them check if they too are charged for sundays despite not washing.

Once you identified a handful errors, if you do, inform your landlord and have him correct the system. Try to get your landlords consent that you don't need to pay the bill until things have been sorted out. If he insists that you pay, it may be a good idea to instead open a "Sperrkonto" (ask your bank for details) in your name, pay the full amount into that account. Inform your landlord that you did, and that the correct amount will be ready for him as soon as the issue has been resolved and the bill corrected.

If there is indeed an error, you want to have your neighbors join you. The more you are the bigger the pressure. I think a Sperrkonto comes at a cost, so perhaps you want to create a joint one, if that's even doable. Ask your bank.

I would like to get a couple comments on that Sperrkonto thing to make sure you're not getting yourself into trouble.
