Cooking range not working properly (urgent)

Hello

I have got an electric cooking range/ stove in a new apartment. It has two heating stoves on top, & 12 knob settings. Even after setting at 12 the highest, it don't work properly. I can't even make good potato chips. It works OK, dosnt seem faulty, but may be there is somewhere settings by which it can heat fast.

Picture is attached, checked its manual too. please help if anyone knows about it.

Ask your landlord? I'm sure he can sort it better than we can

Re: Cooking range not working properly (urgent)

Two of the four knobs on my (electric) stovetop come to a full stop after turning them to the maximum temperature, while the other two knobs, I can keep on turning them around backwards and forwards, they are missing this "blockage". I noticed the same as you with these two knobs - if they are "over-rotated" the stove doesn't reach the desired temperature, it stays lookwarm if at all. As soon I as "untwist" them, they work. Makes no sense to me, but it works.

Re: Cooking range not working properly (urgent)

i guess for potato chips you need high temperatures, you could see if it reaches the right temperature with a thermometer.
but if it makes the water boil in a decent time it can't be broken, maybe it's an induction cooker? it's a bit different to use, I don't like it much.

If you can wait a couple of days ( cooking chips can't really be that urgent surely?) I could call round on Thursday or Friday and have a look at it.
It appears that you don't live far away from me.

Any chance that the stove is an induction unit and your pots aren't suitable?

Too obvious.
Better post an urgent question on an internet forum at 10 in the evening and do not look at the thread afterwards

It's induction, and standard stainless steel won't work correctly, only magnetic stainless will (as well as cast iron, and other magnet stuff).

I believe it is not induction, as when it heats up, i can see red hot spring inside the oven. Induction have such heating springs? it seems very old thingy.

Where does it say it's induction? I think it's just a standard ceramic hob.

OP are you using the big ring at the back? Have you turned it all the way around past 12 and then back again to activate the larger outer ring? You may just be cooking using the smaller middle part.

I drive through Hauterive every day so I could stop by one day if you need more help with it.

Re: Cooking range not working properly (urgent)

I encountered a similar phenomenon once:
Check your apartment's circuit breakers in case one has jumped.

In my former apartment the ceramic stove was using several circuit breakers and since one of them was out, it was still working but not warm enough.

Buy a stack o'pizzas/schinkengipfeli/chäschüechli and some fries along with tons of salad and fruit, prepare a vat of salad dressing and you're set until landlord shows up.

Re: Cooking range not working properly (urgent)

If you use a large pot, make sure you activate the dual plate, not just the inner circle of the cooking zone at the back.

As Belgianmum said, select both cooking zones by turning the control knob past 12 to stop. Then back to the required setting.

Hahahah. Potato chips was just an example, being an easy & quick to cook. Actually problem is that I am unable to cook anything especially meat etc.

Re: Cooking range not working properly (urgent)

One new update:

I just observed that the stove is doing intermittent heating: it heats for about 30sec, can be seen from red hot springs, and then turns off for next 30sec. It continues like this.

We tried even a pan and one pressure cooker designed for induction, still have had same slow heating.

Therefore, I believe, intermittent heating is a big mess, and I don't know how and why stove is doing this. And how to stop this.

Thanks for your support. Regards

Thermostat might be broken. But why don't you just contact your landlord?

Call the landlord and get them to check and if necessary repair it, or is that somehow complicated?
