Are all those chemicals good for your health?
The chlorine (one chemical ) gets washed out completely in the second wash done with regular detergent after the first wash using the javel. One is surrounded by chemicals nowadays, and by not overdoing it I believe it is OK. Look at the amounts of bleach some people in the US use for everything, not only white laundry... that's a different story IMO.

My house is all black and white, so all my 3 bathrooms have only white towels I use white vanish powder works brilliant
I like my white stuff to be sparkling white so I go the extra mile to get whatever "vanish"es any tinge of non-whiteness.

not really- I like white towels too- and sheets- but you do need proper washing powder and Vanish- and then it is very simple. Bleach and dishwasher powder is really not .... going to help
It did.

Now I know why I avoid white stuff as much as possible. What a lot of palaver. Buy coloured items for heaven's sake and give yourselves a break. Life is too short for all this.
My life has to be long enough to wash white stuff lol

Thanks for this suggestion! Found out that Coop stocks it..

Similarly, Savo seems to be a good product for white laundry.

I haven't used powdered detergent in a long while because liquid is far easier on my dark items.

I used to have a black and white bathroom; at the time I wanted but couldn't find black towels anywhere. Now they're quite common, but back then it wasn't an "in" colour for towels and I never did find any. So just used whatever colour I had in stock.

Well if you used them enough, and didn't wash your towels I'm sure they would turn black in time lol

I HAD that until I threw my favorite jeans in and the powdered thing turned it into a stripey nightmare

Since then, better safe than sorry. Will go and purchase a powdered detergent for white towels exclusively though, after all this input from everyone.
Wish my jeans luck in case they accidentally end up in the laundry after that purchase.

That'll attract too much heat in the summer months as black absorbs heat, and I don't want to fry eggs on my towels.

So I need to wash them.
