Zurich - best places near the station?

Apologies if this is a repost, I've tried various searches and have a good idea of nice places to live, but not specifically those within walking distance/short tram ride to Zurich HB.

Essentially if living near Zurich station was everything, where would you live? To explain my missus will work in Zurich and I will be commuting to Basel each day. We've looked at a few in-between towns but none really light our fire like Zurich and Basel. Since I already work late, I want to cut my door-to-door commute to the bone otherwise I'm no better off that I was in London

Mucho gracias

Re: Zurich - best places near the station?

Hmm what to write that wasn't already mentioned in the other threads about the city...

There are some arterial roads in the area, you should consider this if you're sensible to traffic noise. The Niederdorf and Bahnhofstrasse attract the nightlife or are busy in the daytime, respectively. That may be a disadvantage or advantage, depending on your preferences. Finally the Tram and S-Bahn connections are really good in some directions (like mine: Wiedikon) so you shouldn't write off an appartment just because it's six tram stops from the main station. Use the ZVV online timetable in your search!

Infrastructure isn't a problem in any part of the town but you can read the other threads for some of their specific characteristics...

Re: Zurich - best places near the station?

I agree with Nathu, don’t rule out places just because they are not within walking distance from the HB, it is already hard enough to find apartment in Zurich!

I had the same problem at first, wanted to stay as close as possible to the main station having to commute to work everyday. But I ended up finding a flat which is 2 min walking from one of the minor stations and from there I need exactly 5 min to get to the HB with the S-Bahn! Commuting problem solved

Good Luck!

I recommend the Niederdorf, I live here and it is a great location. It is loud at night, but if you don't mind that, its prime. The other thing you can do is go on homegate.ch and just search in 8000, 8001.
