Lausanne tips needed

Hello

We're a family of four and we're about to move to Lausanne. Just starting the fearsome flat hunt, and need some advice.

We want to live slap bang in the centre of town, but within walking distance of an English kindergarten/play school. Ideally Montessori.

Is this actually possible?

Any tips massively appreciated.

yes it's possible but the nice flats are going to be around 4000 for a 2 bed and are going to go quick!

Yeah we're prepared for high prices, although it doesn't have to be a palace, just within walking distance of the kindergarten.

I suppose it's the location of the kindergarten I'm really after...

I saw a lovely duplex right perfect in town but so many applications mine had no chance. There was another that went that day. So it's possible but I'd have other locations you're happy with too or you pay not move soon

Thanks. Again, its the combination of centre/kindergarten we want. Although I suppose we'd be lucky to get the centre at all!

A question before I decide to (try to) help or not.

Have you researched Montessori and English play group yet to set a "location" for the apt. hunt or not? If so what is the address/location.

Re: Lausanne tips needed

Use www.local.ch and search Montessori Lausanne, that'll give you locations. Though a quick look shows 16 locations, but seemingly they're all just the same school.

Do you have a school fee package as part of your move? Because at 5 times a week per kid (age 2-4) that's 6,300 CHF a year for each of them - 25,200 for 4!

Well we would consider anywhere central that has an English play group. But the only options we can find seem a bit out of the way (l'ecoline) or too pricey (international school).

I've read bad reviews about Mick's montessori place but that was a while back, perhaps they've raised their game.

6,300 CHF is actually rather cheap if indeed per year.

Thanks - tip very much appreciated. Seems like a useful resource in general, but on this particular topic it seems it's flagging the same one, as you say.

We're a family of four, not four kids (thank god> But even so, it seems to me that 6300 per year is actually not too bad considering some places are 2500 per month!

L'Ecoline is a wonderful place. The havé a slightly diffierent philosophy to Montissori (ecole Reggio Emilia). But it's not English speaking. I mean some of the stAff speak English to accommodate the parents. But the kids will speak mostly French.

If your main goal is to be close to the school, St Sulpice is a lovely place to live. Less apartment choice. But don't rule it out.
