| | IKEA recalls "Lock" & "Hyby" glass domed ceiling lamp shades
Ikea has been selling "Lock" lamps since 2012 and the "Hyby" models since 2012. The retailer said a full refund will be offered without a receipt. http://www.bbc.com/news/business-35541884

I got yesterday an email from IKEA in another country, where I bought some years ago a couple of lamps from the list, informing about the fact, and asking for returning them and get reimbursed.
Strangely enough, having also subscribed the newsletter from IKEA in Switzerland, got an email today, but just advertising.
Though, the issue is also acknowledged here:

I read that the metal clips might break away and the glass will fall down, possibly resulting in a nasty injury.
So, if you have one, at least remove the glass straight away, and take the complete lamp back, or destroy it, when you have the time.

The failure is typically but not always when people go to try to change a bulb, the clip fails and the glass shade falls.... ouch.
They were cheap to buy, the poor quality was obvious, and I try whenever possible to steer people away from them as a few Chuffs more got you a much better quality light. Good on Ikea for the recall though.

Speaking about Ikea and build quality, I feel that since the recession, they started to use really cheap materials (and cheap contractors) in order to bring costs down. Granted, they've never been Roche Bobois, but now they were dangerously approaching Conforama.

I heard that some relocation agency don't willing to bring IKEA furnitures because they are so fragile. I just go there for a cafeteria these days...

I’ve just discovered today that Ikea PATRULL safety gates has also been recalled in USA in June 2016 and I was wondering if I can return these gates in CH in 2020 as it was bought from CH? I’m surprised Ikea didn’t e-mail me about this as I’m also a card holder?

As far as I know, Ikea doesn't send recall notices. They post the information on their website and in the store. It may also be reported in the news. https://www.englishforum.ch/2992017-post8.html |
