Living in Toggenburg

Hello

Does anyone live in Toggenburg SG? I am interested in the areas around Wattwil especially.

What are the pros and cons in your opinion? How does it compare to other parts of the canton and what could we expect from the area?
Friendly locals?
Diversity?
Local food markets?
Good places to eat?
Transport?
Weather?
Local customs/holidays?

Any helpful experiences and/or advice would be appreciated.

Re: Living in Toggenburg

Our neighbours were going to move to Wattwil. They work from home so it doesn't really matter where they live.

The only reason for going was that they would get a lot of house for their money around there.

They didn't move in the end.

Not much help I realise but then no one else responded to your request.

Well, you'll have the Premiere of the first Jodel musical in the whole of Switzerland! Aren't you lucky?

The Wattwil Jodelklub is one of the most famous choirs of yodellers in Switzerland. If you're male, join now for your integration! The town itself looks a little run down (who put that ugly grey tower at the entrance of the valley, blocking the mountains view for the whole town??) and nothing special, with the usual youngsters hanging around the train station. No restaurant to die for from what I could tell.

Re: Living in Toggenburg

Hey
Thanks for the post. Our neighbours told us there isn't much going on there but like your friends we have seen some great houses for a lot less than we pay now. Been a few times to get a feel for the place but personal experience counts for a lot.

Maybe someone else will come along soon with some more info!

Mmm yes Wattwil does look a bit tired and run down. Some of the surrounding villages look prettier though, Hemberg, Ebnat.

I guess most expats do tend to congregate in the bigger towns and cities, so don't know much about the real country.

Hi, Vertedee

Did you move near Wattwil, in the end?
I live there, and I'm new-ish to the Forum, so if you're nearby we could meet up!

Cheers!

Re: Living in Toggenburg

Unfortunately we didn't take the plunge! Kind of regret it but at the time it seemed like the right thing to do.

Hope you get on okay there.
