That is, what is called a "thought-terminating cliché" in Germany.
You can justify almost everything with that.
Bedbugs in your hotel? Be happy that you don't have to live in a refugee-camp in Turkey. Or still in Aleppo.
Your flight is delayed for half a day? You're lucky you don't have to pay a smuggler thousands for a passage on a derelict boat!

etc.pp.
Sacked for smoking on the job? Think yourself lucky that you're not being forced to watch your daughter being gang raped by an invading army.

Re: Contractors smoking in new build

I support the right for the OP to complain & action to be taken. When we had a house built, one of the painters was smoking dope! We moved in & the architect decided the job was badly done so they moved all our furniture out into the "garden" which was actually a patio with soil around to repaint the ceiling... whilst I tried to juggle a newborn & a hyperactive toddler.

How dare you? Are you showing no consideration for what's going on in North Korea?

Re: Contractors smoking in new build

Our workmen wanted to use our nearly-finished apartment as a crack den.

"Why not?" I said, "After all, Putin invaded Ukraine" which is much worse.

Please open door. Is cold.

I imagine young Kimmies reaction would have been slightly more impressive than mine at workmen walking in & out without knocking when I had my boobs hanging out with a baby attached. All I managed to do was cry for hours on end.

Re: Contractors smoking in new build

Our house is currently being built and we've noticed the same problem. Currently only concrete floors, so we aren't too bothered. If it continues when the floors are down and the walls are painted, that would be extremely disappointing.
