Where to find 'black iron pipe' or similar in Switzerland

TL;DR: Where/how to get black iron pipe and fittings in CH?

Hello all,

I'm moving into a new place, and with a new place comes new furniture. I've recently been interested in making my own rather than buying.

In the US there is such a thing as a black iron pipe, with fittings, flanges, elbows, etc for simple assembly. I believe it is usually intended for wiring or plumbing of some sort, but very often it is used in DIY projects.

I have been scouring the internet and all the hardware and hobby shops I can find in the Zurich and Geneva areas, and I cannot for the life of me find anything similar around here. The best I found was some iron pipe (very similar) at Bauhaus, but they didn't have many fittings, and they definitely didn't have any flanges (crucial if you want to make most furniture with it).

Does anyone have any clue where I could find this stuff, or perhaps order it online for a reasonable expense?

Thanks a lot!!

Places I've visited (I may have missed it while there...):

Bauhaus pipe, no fittings or flanges
Peterhans nope
CoopBau nope
Jumbo nope

Check out the channel if this is of any interest to you, the stuff is pretty neat.

Apologies, first time posting on this forum. Hope I didn't do anything too horribly wrong...

Welcome to the Forum.
An introduction thread would have been nice and this could perhaps have gone into Housing in General instead of Daily Life but you've said what you want and where you've already looked which is pretty good going for a new EF member!

Have you a Hornbach in your region? German firm - there's one down in the Linthebene in Galgenen. Big place, lots of stuff, fairly clearly marked and the staff we've asked when we have been unable to find something have been both helpful and obliging. (And I'm not German so I'm not biased!).
Happy hunting.

The buildingcenters have a limited selection of fittings, and usually only galvanised pipe.

Try http://www.radiatherm.ch/ in Zürich. They supply the trade and also do over the counter.

I don't know if the guy speaks English, and even if he does, don't go in and say "I need a thingy". Take in a list of the parts you need (including the pipe sizes) including pictures or line drawings of the fittings.

They will even cut and thread pipe to a length you specify, or at least they used to.

Failing that, find a Sanitär company in your area.

Thanks for the super fast responses, really appreciate it.

I speak German, so no worries about communication. Also, sorry for posting here instead of Home, I looked there and saw stuff related to actual housing thins, and searched DIY and found stuff here...

I'll check out these places you guys mention, thanks a lot!

I've seen some stuff in Hornbach but galvanised. Also there's this if you can get it from Germany:

Maybe it wont be as black as it is available in the U.S.

A Google search for "tempergussfittings schwarz site:.ch" gives a lot of possible vendors.

This seems to be another larger one with shops in the Winterthur, Wetzikon and Glattbrugg

And here a +GF+ catalog to plan your project:

On the video of the table and benches, the piping looks to me like the ones a plumber would use.....( my dad was one and I worked with him as a teenie am pretty sure he used some such stuff) so I presume you could also try Sanitas Troesch, they are one of the biggest suppliers for plumbers in Switzerland (not only for new kitchen and bath fittings and furniture...)
