Choice between Zug and Mannedorf (Pros and Cons)

I am moving to Switzerland in mid September, after some research i left 2 places as finalists, Zug and Mannedorf.
I am moving with my wife and 1 year old baby, in my situation which of those 2 options would you select and why ? (Pros and cons for each place)

If you are not going to live in Zurich city itself, I would say Zug is better.
- it's own mountain for skiing on your doorstep
- less busy
- closer to the alps for mountain trips
- great biking around the lake
- closer to visit the areas around Luzern (hiking and biking in the summer for example)

Mannedorf is more of an isolated bit on the end of the gold coast. Nothing special is there, and to access the parts of Switzerland like the mountains etc., you are in for a bit of a trek.

I wouldn't even bother thinking about the taxes. Maybe it makes a difference to you personally. But, Zug is probably a nicer town to be around as well - as in, there is actually a nice town. Mannedorf is just sort of a nothing place, like a lot of the gold coast (I lived nearby).

To live in Zurich city vs. Zug is a different question.

I kind of gave up on Zurich mostly because of life costs and taxes, from my research with CHF 3'000 or 3'500 rental per month you can find a much better apartment in Zug or Baar than in Zurich.
Then you have also in Zug the lake, a big expat community and a fairly decent social life (Shopping, Cinema, Restaurants, etc etc etc), so i think i won't consider Zurich comparing the costs.

Sincerely I haven't been to Männedorf but I would choose Zug because:

1) Lower taxes.

2) It's a small town but has almost everything you need for a daily life.

3) It's a secondary railway hub which means you can arrive at the Zürich airport, Luzern, Milan, etc., without switching trains.

4) Did I say lower taxes?

5) More choices for child care

6) Lower taxes

Note that your commute time Zug/Zürich will be higher than Männedorf/Zürich.

My guess is that Männedorf is better on having more sun...

Hum, I am not sure if I got your point... Firstly, in Zürich you have the lake too and some rivers as well. Secondly, the expat community is much bigger in Zürich than in Zug. If your wife is Brazilian, she will probably find, for instance, a Brazilian hairdresser in Zürich but not one in Zug.

Cost-wise, Zug is better because you pay half of the taxes, perhaps a cheaper health insurance, but the rest is pretty much the same. On housing there is a strange behavior: one and two bedrooms are more expensive in Zug, whereas 3 and up seem to be the same price or even cheaper.

Depending on your nationality you might have to consider if you're allowed to live in one Kanton and work in another. There will be plenty of threads on this if you search the forum.

By the way, I live in Meilen, another 'nothing place' on the Gold Coast ;-).

It's lovely, very close to everything, and we pay less than 3000 for a lovely house right near the lake.

Hey now I mean a "nothing" place, in the sense that there is very little there. That is a major plus for many - peaceful, tranquil, super safe, but it is a sort of appendix of Zurich that doesn't get a lot of through traffic. Depending on your disposition, that is good or bad. Meilen is a lovely town, actually, but it is assuming you like the quiet.
