Re: Renting without deposit

Looks like another option to swiss caution for me.
But most landlords like a bank deposit more then these products.

Re: Renting without deposit

If you have the spare cash, it's better to just pay the deposit.

Swisscaution and alike pretty much work a lot like a bank loan for the deposit and at quite rip-off rates (5-10% or so - comparable to stock market yields!). You'll have to pay them every year for it and at the end of your rent still have to repay all of landlord's claims plus extra for their administration.

Re: Renting without deposit

I see that you have just started work - will your employer loan you the money for a deposit? Some companies have this as a standard policy, but it is not normally that well advertised.

Re: Renting without deposit

Yes, my employer will give me money for the deposit, but that will happen in 3-4 weeks. I need the deposit now, as I got the apartment and should take it over as of Monday. I somehow expected that the apartment search will last longer and at that time I would have the money for the deposit.
But also I think I could use this money much better than have it sit in a bank.

Re: Renting without deposit

Looks like you have no choice other than to use some kind of caution service.

I find them quite expensive, especially swisscaution, but for just one year (do remember to cancel, best would be at the moment you sign) it seems worth it in your situation.

Re: Renting without deposit

They told me today that they will need my deposit by end of August, so I will have the money by then. Solved. :-)
Thanks!
