Buying a home in Switzerland

Hey guys! Firstly I'm knew here so if I get anything wrong and break protocol, I'm sorry

I'm looking to get in touch with people who have purchased property in Switzerland. Preferably an area that doesn't cost an arm a leg and some organs.
We are a very young (cough) family who would like to buy a home in Switzerland as both an investment and something that we can hopefully call home in future. I'm a Swiss national currently in the Middle East and my husband has a passport that would probably to better as toilet paper. (Anyone had luck getting a Swiss passport whilst living abroad? My husband could do with a Swiss passport. We got different info from 3 embassies and an office in Bern)
So those are two questions in one post 😉🙃
I'm looking for advice on purchasing property in CH. what makes sense and what doesn't.
Taxes, laws etc. hoping someone's painstakingly done their homework and can pass the info on to me 🙈

Welcome.

Use the search function, or use google and include 'english forum ch' along with your keywords.

Nobody is going to type out encyclopedic responses to your vague questions...

Re: Buying a home in Switzerland

Terribly sorry for asking vague questions. Let me try this again and hopefully not offend anyone.
1. What are some affordable places to buy home in the German part of Switzerland that aren't too far from Zurich.
2. Are Swiss living abroad allowed to buy property and if yes are we allowed to rent it out?
3. Does anyone have the breakdown on taxes involved Ina home purchase?

1. Depends on what you consider affordable
2. No idea, probably yes
3. No clue as you do not mention what you earn, where you are now etc etc

Really, no one here can answer vague questions. Why not check what was written here in the Forum? The question on house buying has been raised several times

Re: Buying a home in Switzerland

This map shows representative prices for 5.5 room homes in Swiss cities. In the Deutschschweiz prices for this size of home range from CHF 735'000 in Romanshorn to CHF 1.96 million in Zurich.

Hold the mouse pointer over the city to see the price:

Generally, prices of similar homes would be less expensive in villages.

Here is a nice book for you:

Lots of information, start reading. There is a lot to understand before starting the journey of being an owner.
