Old furniture disposal

Hello everyone.

We bought a new sofa and we have no idea what we should do with the old one. It stays in Garage for 2 days alrdy..

I wrote 2 emails to the swissrecycling.ch, but still no answer.

I saw that people put things just outside, but I dont like that idea. It's Looks really ugly... But still how this works?

Or can I call some Company to pick the Sofa up? What are the costs?
Or is there any place where I can legally leave the old furniture?

Just for info, I'm living in the City of Aarau.

Any info is helpfull..

Thanks everyone! Peace.

Re: Old furniture disposal

If you can store it for a little while longer, I'd suggest you make photos of it, including honest pictures of any damage. Write down all the measurements, and the material out of which it is made. Mention any defects plainly.

Then post an ad on the "free stuff" section of this forum, or on one or better still all of these:
www.fleedoo.ch
www.tutti.ch
www.anibis.ch

including, in the title: FREE / GRATIS
and write it again, in the text.

Specify in the add either "collection only" ("muss abgeholt werden") or
"can be delivered within x km" ("kann innert x km geliefert werden).

If it is in reasonable condition, you might find that a Brockenhaus (second-hand shop, charity shop, op-shop) will take it off you. It is best to take the photos there, and ask in person.

Putting it out in the street may well be - technically - against the by-laws. However, if you choose a non-rainy day, and put it out with a big sign "GRATIS - ZUM MITNEHMEN / FREE ", you might be lucky. That sometimes works happily, and fast. Be ready, however (to be fair, legal and safe) to take it indoors again if no-one collects it. That way, you can avoid being fined, and can protect the item overnight so that it does not become damaged by weather or passing humans and other animals.

Re: Old furniture disposal

In your town, these are the people to contact for your old sofa collection. If you can take it to the depot it will be much cheaper.

Note for future, usually when you buy something here, the shop will take away the old one for a small fee.

Non-electronics (furniture etc.) that is. Electronics, you can bring to any store and they'll dispose of it for free as payment for disposal is included in the purchase price.

Sellers of 'fridges and sofas will also take away the old stuff. You just have to ask before buying...

Re: Old furniture disposal

You can donate it to the needy ones.

e.g. Caritas can collect it from your home and donate it.
