Building/Painting needed in Schaffhausen

Any tips on cheap painting or building in Schaffhausen? Can I use cheaper, German labour? After getting crazy Swiss estimate I'm desperate for advice.

Thanks in advance.

If your employed workers are not resident here, then you must get them all a work permit. Ask for advice at your Gemeindehaus.

Thank you Sbrinz, hmm I suspect this rapidly eliminates any savings made by using them to start with.

How much work do you need done? There are a few members here on EF that offer handyman services, and I presume they already have permits if they run a business. For example, member bigblue2 started a thread to recommend an EF member that helped with renovations of his old farm house:

If it's not that detailed, you can try rentarenter - retirees looking for extra income.

Thank you so much 3Wishes for the lead and advice. I'm still not used to the absurd cost of things here.

Sorry, I can't help with whether a cost is reasonable or not in this case. For me, sometimes the cost stings a bit less if you know the person/company working for you is recommended by others and has done good a good job.

Keep in mind it's common in Switzerland for vendors to charge not only the materials and time spent on the job, but also for travel time.

Not only Switzerland, that is quite common in the Netherlands and Germany as well

German workers benefit from the agreement of Free Movement between the EU and Switzerland; no problem.

There is only a simple notification procedure for EU nationals who are here for less than 90 days (working days), look here. in English language.
