Where to buy a mattress in Zurich? Or online stores?

Hi, We have just moved a Zurich and need to buy a mattress this week as moving into our apartment on Saturday!

We would like a pocket sprung super king, where is a good place to buy? We are happy to buy online as well if you have any recommendations.

We are also looking for other furniture so any reasonably priced furniture stores and recommendations would be appreciated.

Thank you!!

Here you go:

http://www.ikea.com/ch/de/catalog/products/50257719/

You can buy this item online, it is really heavy (around 55kg).

Thanks, we had looked at IKEA but for some reason it doesn't look very comfortable :/ I think we are looking for a step up from there and happy to pay twice that.

I doubt you'll find a Super King size here for a start. And how much are you planning to spend?

Why not define the term "super king" for those of us who fall into the "unwashed" category. It might help with the suggestions.

Sorry, I thought super king was a fairly standard bed measurement. IKEA seems to do them so was hoping other places may as well.

Super king is 180cm wide instead of the 160cm standard king size.

We are happy to spend 1000-2000 chf depending on the mattress.

First of all: You can't judge a mattress by looking at it but only by lying on it.

IME IKEA mattresses are great value. Paying double the IKEA price somewhere else will probably get you something worse comfort- and quality-wise. For a noticeable step up you'll pay at least three or four times what IKEA charges.

Major drawback at IKEA: They do standard length (200cm) only, i.e. if you're tall and need 210 or 220 cm mattresses you're out of luck.

Re: Where to buy a mattress in Zurich? Or online stores?

I'm very familiar with IKEA and as I said we have looked at it as an option, I was hoping to get suggestions of Swiss/German furniture and bed stores I might not be familiar with having only moved here a week ago.

Our mattresss is we left behind was a dreams mattress and it was abloslutely amazing, I believe it cost us £1500 and we were hoping for something similar.

There must be something between an IKEA £700 mattress and a £10000 mattress and those are the suggestions I was hoping for, not a lecture on how to choose a mattress.

I have to say so far I'm shocked by how unfriendly this forum is, if you haven't got anything helpful to say, why bother? I am not just talking about this discussion but conversations here in general.

How unfriendly? You got a suggestion (IKEA), a couple of queries and a recommendation for IKEA. How is that unfriendly? And this is a forum, people can say what they like, not just reply to questions. Anyway welcome to the forum.

You could also try Micasa (Migros furniture), Top Tip (Coop furniture), Interio, Pfister and possibly even Otto's if there are any of these near you. They go from more expensive than IKEA (first 2), even more expensive, very expensive and cheap. Also use www.local.ch to search for Matratze shops.

Re: Where to buy a mattress in Zurich? Or online stores?

If you have transportation, there are two Conforama stores in Kanton ZH. The three mid-priced brands you should have a look at are Celestra and Happy and Bico. Conforama has some models of all three but tends to have the mid priced models. Not sure where you would find the higher end in ZH.

Here is a link to what Conforama has in the way of mattresses:

Re: Where to buy a mattress in Zurich? Or online stores?

We bought our bed and mattress last week from Ikea and I was happy with the memory foam mattress, but to my surprise the bed came without the slatted bed base (lattenrost in German). so we had to buy it separately and it was almost same price as the mattress above 400 Franc which I find expensive
Ikea and Conforama have good deals in general, I do recommend them and you can order online as well.

Then try Möbel Schubiger near the Glattzentrum shopping mall.

Probably the biggest selection in Zurich and 15% off all bedding until October 22.

Re: Where to buy a mattress in Zurich? Or online stores?

I just went and bought the most expensive one in IKEA and it turned out pretty ok.
You can return an IKEA mattress if you don't find it comfy. I don't remember correctly , but I think they said 30 days !!
The U.S IKEA site says " you may exchange your (clean) mattress once in 365 days !!

So do ask , in IKEA or wherever, about exchange AND return policy.

Matrazen Concord in Waldshut-Tiengen.

Only 40km drive from Zurich and much cheaper than anything you can find in Switzerland, including Ikea. Quality's great too, really happy with their basic Taschenfederkern mattress, I sleep better than on Ikea's Hessing which is 2-3x the price.

Re: Where to buy a mattress in Zurich? Or online stores?

I had Ikea mattresses for a few years, but they aggravated my back problems. I ended up checking several stores, among which Pfister, Micasa and some matress specific stores (like the Concord one), and ended up buying in Micasa - I put all my discount cuppons together, went on the special Sunday where everything is 10% off, and got a pretty good deal out of it.

The mattress, however, was much more expensive than the regular ones in Ikea, but I have been really happy about it. My back too.

You might need to check several stores before finding "the one", including different systems. I aske dfor advice a few years ago, was advised the memory foam ones, tried them but did not work well with me.

+1 for Matratzen Concord
>https://www.matratzen-concord.ch/home/home.do.

They have several types (visco elastic, foam, etc.) on display and so you can lie on them and try them to see what fits better to you. I also liked that the price range is from rather basic stuff to "high-end" so you can choose based on your budget / needs.

They have several shops around the ZH Area. I went to the one in Volketswil and the lady was very helpful. Check for discounts, we got an offer of 2x1 so it was quite a nice deal

Re: Where to buy a mattress in Zurich? Or online stores?

We had a similar idea when we moved here, however found that the delivery times for most places made anything other than self drive from Ikea/conforama a non-starter as we only had a few days too. I bought the ikea mattress that was suggested earlier (Hessing), but paid extra for the topper and have been very happy with it.

A friend bought from here http://www.betten-strahm.ch/strahm-k...ter-duebendorf and found them excellent, but the delivery time was around 3 weeks if I remember correctly.

Re: Where to buy a mattress in Zurich? Or online stores?

Thank you so much for the recommendations, we will look at all of them today!

We have discovered memory foam doesn't suit us/my boyfriends back so ideally looking for a pocket sprung one with topper attached or getting an extra topper. Price wise we are flexible and if we find the perfect one and it costs more its not a huge issue but would like to stay in a reasonable range as have a big apartment to furnish

We were hoping to get a mattress with relatively quick delivery or picking it up but don't mind waiting longer for sofa etc. We do have a double blow up bed in case it doesn't make it for the weekend so not the end of the world

Re: Where to buy a mattress in Zurich? Or online stores?

@Maijakm
I'm happy for you that you have already found a new, big home. Enjoy furnishing it.

This forum is a wealth of information, and there are many, many very helpful people here. Some have a sense of humour which might seem strange or inappropriate to others, yet at least some of even those folks mean well. This is, after all, rather a multicultural forum, and not everyone's mother tongue is English. My suggestion to you is to hang around here for a while, and you will gradually see which posters' styles you enjoy, and whose responses you prefer not to bother to read. Your posts, too, will be read that way, and people will learn to like to take the trouble to respond to you, or they will move on. Or some might hammer you... but it is rarely worth replying in the same way.

Your post about what you're willing to pay for a mattress made me want to put it in relation to this:
http://www.bfs.admin.ch/bfs/portal/d...usbildung.html
It is a graph showing typical salary structures in Switzerland.
