Epalinges

Hi

Just wondering if anyone knows or has any experience of living in Epalinges? We have a young family and my husband is working in Lausanne. Ideally we are looking for a house with garden in an area which has a mix of nationalities/expats within fairly easy reach of the city and the lake. Whilst we are not bothered by loads of bars/restaurants and things to do within walking distance (like in Lausanne) it would be nice if there was a bit of a community feel and a few things going on. Would Epalinges provide this? Our initial thoughts were that it felt a bit too isolated/quiet say compared to Pully or Lutry - but property in these areas seem a little more expensive and weighing everything up, Epalinges may be best bet. If anyone has any insight we would be really appreciative.

Thanks

Char

Re: Epalinges

It's so close its like Lausanne.
IMO it's not a village or anything just some flats/houses and nearby, the Chalet a Gobet with forest.

Epalinges is cut in the middle by route de berne, with rather heavy traffic.

I would not differentiate epalinges than say "mont sur lausanne", is looks the same more or less.

Of course Lutry/Pully are very close to Lavaux and the lake and the train to GVA Airport, and between Lausanne/Vevey, therefore, it's really expensive.

I doubt Epalinge is much cheaper.

ALso its rather close to the M2 metro which goes down to Ouchy. Yet from Epalinge that's rather hard to reach, the main road is the route de berne going toward Vennes...

In fact I doubt there 's much going up north Lausanne. Servion (zoo), Froideville (houses) Oron la ville? (shops, 2-3 events per year), Moudon? (has a music or theater thing, few markets in the year...), Echallens? (LEB beside that... museum of wheat...).

While I consider Epalinge to be north Lausanne, I'd say anything above is rather quiet, and to attend events one need to drive around. Within 50KM radius then you can have things, sometimes.

Lutry/Pully are completely different feel. I would not live there, yet its nice to walk around lake, etc...

Anyway, why don't you go there and walk around?

Re: Epalinges

We have been living in Epalinges for almost ten years. We chose living here as the standard of the schools is one of the highest in Vaud. The town itself is nothing special, but it has good connections to Lausanne, a couple of small super markets, post office, etc and something important to me is that it is close to the highway and unless you live in the route the bern itself, not heavy traffic. Don't know the crime stats, but where I live so far is very low/non-existent (touching wood!). Hope this helps.

Re: Epalinges

Ingar Kampred lived for a long time in Epalings (owner of Ikea)

It's fairly international, Nestle have their research centre close by in Ver Chez les Blancs, so plenty of Nescafs around the area
