OK, I found this:

Die Weihnachtsbeleuchtung dürfe jeweils vom 1. Advent bis zum 6. Januar bis 1.00 Uhr nachts betrieben werden.

This means that you can make pretty much any lights decoration that you want. You just have to turn them of at 01:00

The Part with 22:00, thats the time "normal" outdoor lights should be turned of in CH (but this is not the case for Christmas lights in Advent!)

Good luck
ah, oops, being doing it wrong all these years

Not been here too long have you..... You'll find it an excellent ice-breaker, but up to you, it would probably be Chf 10.-- well spent

I just don't really see why behavior like that should be 'rewarded'. He came in the middle of the night onto our balcony, took down the christmas lights that I had put up, posted a rude note and I should take him a bottle of wine?

Just doesn't sit quite right with me...

I hope you were singing Christmas carols while putting the lights back up, or at least listening to that song by Wham!

Seriously, though, I wonder what will happen...

Weather forecast for Zurich is -4C tonite so just pour some water around

Did not know the regulation about switching off at 01:00, mine burn until 02:00 and have for the last many years.

They start up again at 05:30 but I cannot find any regulation about the switch on time.

Any chance of a photo so we can judge how annoyingly shiney or not they are?

Someone just writes something in German gives a translation in English w/o any source and you belive it? Just do not flush after 10.

Edit: Seems to be a Federal Court rulling in a neighbour dispute
BGE 140 II 33 http://relevancy.bger.ch/php/clir/ht...140-II-33%3Ade

According to this 6am is switch on time.
Outside Advent and Christmas time (which is till Epiphany, January 6) 10pm is the switch off time.
Court emphasized that it depends also on local tradition and customs.

It's not a reward, it's just an easy way to get the conversation flowing to see where the problem is and find a mutually convenient way of resolving ti before it escalates any further.

Now i understand you have put them back up without speaking to him, so you have successfully managed to escalate the problem whilst resolving nothing, don't be too surprised if the guy comes around really pissed off.

That's how we do things around here, although i do understand things may be different in the big cities.

Try dialogue, works wonders, unless you feel big enough and confident enough to face him down, which i doubt, in view we are still talking about this rather minor matter

PS. A Chf 10.-- bottle of wine can hardly be classed as a reward

I didn't realise it was a Swiss tradition to get a bottle of wine for every Christmas decoration one rips down! That's my evening sorted.

You can come and start with mine. They are boring, but can't be bothered to make more of an effort.
I'll go get the wine...

Yes, marbles, and a trailcam/camera-trap, which captures all the action. Then upload the video to LiveLeak and post the link here. We'll all go over and do the "snarky comments" deed. And then comes the part with the bottle of wine and the "merry X-mas" card with the LiveLeak-link all over it for him.

It isn't as you well know, it was an icebreaker to resolve the problem.

However saying that, if you want to come around to mine and rip a few down i will provide some booze. Gin before 19.00hrs, red wine afterwards

If she had the balls to do this, i guess we wouldn't even be having this conversation !
