Installing a washing machine

Hi, not sure if this belong to this section or where to post it.

I want to buy a washing machine + dryer. I know that I can install it as other in the building have it.

The question is about the fact that, as everything in Switzerland, I think I'm not allowed to do it by muyself but I have to call and overpay someone that have a "Diploma in washing machine installation" :-) and will charge probably 400chf for 30 mins of work.

1) Is it written somewere that I can't do myself
2) Do you have one technician to recommend

Thanks, S.

Re: Installing a washing machine

Just because others have them doesn't necessarly mean you can. Check your contract. It may be that all the others who have them have asked specific permission in which case you will need to do so as well.

Yes, you have to have written permission from the landlord and get it installed professionally.

But I am sure P and FMF will soon be here to tell you I am talking rubbish lol

You obviously don't have the appropriate Schweiz Qualitat training required to attach two hoses and plug something into a wall socket, let alone route a drain hose and level a piece of complicated machinery using a spanner and a level. I doubt you have the appropriate cantonal certification for proper drip pan placement either.

TRUE STORY: When the artisans came to put the new number plaque on our house, I watched in awe as it took two men a full twenty minutes to drill the two holes and screw the screws in.

If things go wrong at any time and you get flood or vibration damage (later edit, or faulty electricity supply) you will be very glad you have proof for your insurance that it was professionally installed.

Really, my insurance doesn't state anything like that.
I specifically asked whether insurance generally included exclusions based on fitting things yourself.

I hope you have considered:

1. the electricity supply is adequate for 2 machines in the bathroom

2. the drainage tube is adequate and will not overflow

3. the removal of humidity in the bathroom is adequate

4. the sound insulation is adequate, and will not annoy the neighbours!

However if you do it yourself, after your landlord says no & it then floods, your 3rd Party insurance will pay for all damage caused. This is what I argued, when you said the insurance would not pay
Oh & since you brought it up, could you show a receipt for the charity donation as payment of the bet you lost.

well yes... sort of, which is why I've been very careful with the wording of the above post.

But I paid up all the same and quite a bit more... but FMF will never, ever see a receipt and can't trace the payment as it was done by a French friend who owed me money. Ironically it was 50 % for a film and 50% to the Imad association. I would have paid the money in any case, such a great cause.

What risk of installing washing machine if not allowed?

As Odile has mentioned already after calling her insurance, your insurance will cover you if you install yourself and something goes wrong

Oh so not paid as stated in the thread, I really don't believe 'a film' was an acceptable alternative to the children's charity I asked you to pay.

I would be prepared to have another 100 CHf bet it was never paid.

anyone who wants to see the non truths should look at the link Porsche provided

What cost?

I removed the bidet, and installed the washer, no changes to the plumbing.

In any case, we subsequently bought the place, so even if we had modified the plumbing, it no longer matters!

Re: Installing a washing machine

Search the web for sellers that will include delivery and set-up in the price. Last year When replacing our washer I found the model I wanted at a large Romande retailer. Price did not include delivery and set up. A few minutes searching I found some guys in Geneva who had the same model for the same price, but included delivery etc. Printed that out and asked 1st guys if they wanted the business...

They did.

Only a consideration if you run both at the same time. Worst case, you trip the breaker.

We run ours to the sink, no problems.

What humidity? The condenser dryer uses cold water condensation, and drains to the sink, nothing goes to the air.

Don't run it after 7PM, problem solved.

Re: Installing a washing machine

Some places might not have any washing machine connectors, for supply or drainage. If the work involves digging into a wall then it's not unreasonable to demand it's done professionally. if there is already provision for a washing machine then, if it were me* I'd just fit a machine. This is in fact what I did. There's nothing stopping you doing it to a professional standard if you can find out what that means. Some have a water-stop arrangement in case of leakage and it's a good idea to fit a proper drain under the sink or elsewhere to minimise drainage leaks.

* this expression means what I write represent my own personal opinion about how I would do it and isn't in anyway intended to represent legal compliance.

Is there one in case of 330 Volts? I seem to remember 330V outlets *must* be done by licensed professionals, or something in that direction.
