Nope, that's right, I didn't get any part that is specific to that fridge.

Like others on this thread, I was trying to explain some of the aspects about how deposits can work, in general, in Switzerland, both with regard to deductions that the landlord can make, and in with regard to the time the landlord is allowed to take to process any refund due.
No.I mean where do you buy the part that is specific to that fridge?
It's not just a small maintenance part which is freely available.

-You go onto the website of the company who manufactures the fridge,
- you enter the model number of the fridge
- it gives you a list of all the available spares for that model,
- you choose the one you need,
- you order it
- then you fit it.

It's not exactly rocket science. Fitting a seal on a fridge is pretty easy to do.

Maybe it voids the warranty on the fridge.Point is that it's NOT a normal small maintenance task without considerable research.

Must be tough if you can't afford a new seal for the fridge, how do you keep your meat fresh ?

I doubt very much that there is still a valid warranty on a fridge that has been installed for at least 9 years.
I wouldn't call a 10 minute internet search considerable research myself.

There was nothing wrong with the seal as far as I can remember.
Was working 100%. So I was pretty surprised when they said they were replacing it.
So i had no reason to research replacing it.

Put a thermometer in there for a few days and keep a check of the temperature. If it's above about 5 or 6 degrees, there's a problem with the fridge, most likely the seal.

Replacing it is, as Belgianmum says, easy. The price you have been quoted is probably including the call-out charge of the engineer. The seal will probably cost you less than CHF 10.- plus postage.

Of course he would have had to have done all this before leaving and handing the apartment back.

If he had done the handover personally instead of leaving to a third party he would of course have known what the problem with the fridge seal was. As it is he was not there and so has to rely on info from third parties.

Yes, you're right. I forgot he'd already moved out.

The seal will be considerably more expensive probably as thes seals are individual to each fridge, meaning the manufacturer has you by the short and curlies and will not hesitate to jerk you.

You need a seal, we are only people who make seal for this fridge, please pay.

It's akin to buying fuel on the highway, no choice other than to pay...

Maybe but maybe not - there are lots of third party suppliers for this sort of thing.

IME price tends to depends on the age - if it's current, third party should be cheaper, if it's old then sometimes you have to pay a premium as now the third party may be the only supplier.

Of course the landlord who's going to pass on the cost will tend to go straight to the manufacturer... all the more reason to shop around yourself.

Re: How to get apartment deposit back from Schaeppi Grundstucke

OK.So my last word on Schaeppi Grundstucke.
I would be very careful in any dealings with them. It's quite a large decision when you entrust a large 3 month apartment deposit with any property administration company.
I was burned and would definitely not give them another 1 rappen to look after.
I have left the country with absolutely no intention to return,so it's not relevant to me anymore.
Be careful out there. Many sharks like these guys.
My only regret is that I paid the last month's rent.I was really considering not paying it,but I trusted them and got burned.

A "large" decision, i believe we're taking about a fridge seal, the amount of effort you have spent dicking around far outways the cost of any fridge seal even industrial size fridges !

If you read the whole thread you would see that it was much more than just a "fridge seal"
In fact they charged me a total of 1530 chf for cleaning, removal of items already sold to the new tenant, fridge seal and extra nebenskosten.

Cleaning can easily cost 900 CHF and more. How big was that apartment?
