Recommendation for movers from Manchester to Biel?

Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum, so I'm sorry if I'm breaking any rules by making this post. Please let me know if I am!

I'm currently studying in Manchester and will be moving out to Biel for further studies at the end of summer. I have accumulated quite a number of belongings (about 4 large suitcases) that I would like to bring with me to Biel and thus would like some recommendation on movers?

On a separate note, a friend of mine suggested that I rent a car and drive to Biel (approx 13hrs drive) with all my belongings. Do you think that is a good idea?

At this point, I am unsure of the general cost of such a move so I'm trying to find the cheapest way possible to do so.

Re: Recommendation for movers from Manchester to Biel?

If you can fit it all in 4 large suitcases, just fly over and book extra suitcases. You could even get a friend to help you pack and fly over with you for the weekend, so that they can bring a further two of your suitcases.

The Swiss economy fare direct from Manchester to Zurich charges £15 for the first bag and £40 for the second. So that's 2 x 23kg suitcases for £45.

Easyjet fly direct from Manchester to Basel. They allow 3 x 20kg bags for £19 per bag.

I know many people drive over or get a removal company, but after we had several quotes of over £2k to move £1k worth of belongings, it soon became apparent that flying over with 4 cases between us was the easiest, quickest and most economical method. It also became the only practical solution for us as we were attending our friends' wedding on the Saturday and needed to be in Switzerland by Monday morning.

I agree, fly it out. It's gonna be a lot less fuss.

I travelled from Manchester to Zurich 10 years ago with around nine bags, including 4 suitcases. My husband and I managed traveling by train.

I agree that train is very do-able. I would suggest treating yourself to a taxi across Paris though as the Metro/RER is a fairly long walk even though it's only two stops.

Good luck!

We ended up walking because a taxi driver refused to take us as it wasn't worth his while.
