Capping the aerial in Zurich apartment

Hi,

I've just changed my internet/TV provider from UPC to Sunrise. I have now discovered that I can have the aerial in my apartment capped as it's not necessary with the Sunrise package. This should save me around 25CHF per month on the Nebenkosten.

Anyone with experience of this know how I go about doing this and who I should contact, e.g. landlord or Swisscom?

Thanks

Thing is that Fr. 25.00 is charged to the house-owner and then charged via "Nebenkosten".

I personally do not even believe that the houseowner even pays Fr. 25.00 per flat
It also seems to be some kind of service-contract with upc which houseowners can chose different levels from - none of it asked for/approved by the tenant and all about situations of fault, which is obviously either upc's or the houseowners problem.
However it's one of these things not worth getting all uptight about, for the moment at least upc still has it's foot in most Swiss houses, I'm certain this will soon change too. With every new house built at least.

Any - honest - apartment builiding owners here to confirm or deny this?

Re: Capping the aerial in Zurich apartment

My landlord removed the UPC charge from the 'Nebenkosten' telling UPC to charge their customers in his properties directly. Shortly after this I changed to Sunrise, gave UPC notice and that was it. That was more than two years ago. No-one has ever been along to 'cap' the cable connection so
presumably it's just waiting there for any future change.

I cancelled the contract with UPC by using the letter provided by Sunrise to this end.

Never regretted it. Sunrise have absorbed some of the Swisscom's basic telephone line rent.

It's 25/month, for owners and renters, I know this for fact because we bought the apartment we had been renting, and several owners have opted out and don't pay the charge and the charges were always clearly indicated in the NK (when we were renting) and our condo charges (as owners).

Re: Capping the aerial in Zurich apartment

My experience with new build apartments is: The builder connects the building to Swisscom and some other provider. Swisscom charges a one time connection fee for the connection to their net, and thereafter bills customers who actually use the connection.

UPC (and many of the others) charge little or nothing for the initial connection of the building, but levy a monthly fee per apt, regardless of if the service is used.

It's money for old rope, but you can formally apply to have your apt disconnected.
