Contents insurance vs breakages insurance?

Hoping someone can clearup some confusion we have...

We have swisscaution set up, but we are wanting to ensure that we also have the correct insurance(s) set up to cover theft, breakages, injury to others.

We are renting.

We have been looking at contents and personal liability, but am I right in thinking that we need a third type of insurance to protect us from eg. appliances damages, etc? If so, what is this called?

Also, is it a good idea to take a picture of all damaged areas and forward it to the landlord? This feels a bit strong, especially since the landlord seems very nice, but we want to be sure we are covered, particularly since it is quite an old property with a fair amount of existing wear and tear damage...

Re: Contents insurance vs breakages insurance?

Contents will cover theft, breakages, damage from appliances going wrong. For the last that may also be covered by the landlord's insurance I'm not sure. Personal liability covers injuries to others. So both insurances do what you want, no need for a third.

If you deal directly with the landlord yes, if you're renting via an agency then they're the ones you need to forward any complaints/problems to.
