Rental agencies in Lausanne

Hi !

I will be moving to Lausanne next month (October 2017) and am currently looking for apparments. I was wondering if you guys knew any rental agency to recommend for Lausanne?

I was thinking of giving my criterias to the agency so that they can set up some visits when I get in Lausanne.

Thanks!

I hope you've got a very high budget, otherwise getting a place in such a crowded city as Lausanne will be quite tricky, especially at such a short notice!

All serious rental offers these days tend to show up on homegate or so. There's really no need to pay $$$$ (yes, probably 3-4 figures) to a third party to look through the listings and drive you around the village. They also wouldn't really have your best interests in mind

I've been browsing around a little bit on comparis.ch and housegate.ch. I think I'll be able to find a 2.5 - 3.5 rooms for $2k or lower. I have a feeling that most people would not want to deal with people at distance, and therefore my plan is to schedule visits a week before I get there.

You can find one, sure. And each and every one will have at least 100 applications, most from people with connections and a C permit, if not Swiss passport.

Do you have any suggestions to make the process easier?

Lausanne has a very - and I mean very - tight rental market. It's not uncommon to spend up to 6 months looking for a place. Well, except if you're ready to pay a high price for a place, then there's less demand and you can get something quicker.

Or forget about Lausanne, and go to the suburbs. If you agree to live in more remote places (Moudon, Yvonand, etc.), you can get a place much more easily, and it'll be much cheaper. But then you'll have to think about public transport or getting a car.

If you insist on saying in Lausanne, start with temporary fully furnished place. They're very expensive, but will give you the time you need to find a more permanent place.

Thanks Medusine. I was in fact thinking about Prilly and Renens. Do you think those areas would be easier to find a place?

Certainly easier than in the other direction, toward Pully and Lutry. But it will take you much more than a week to secure a place, that's for sure. And you need to have all your paperwork ready.

And your working permit will be an issue. Many rental agencies don't like B or L permits, you'll pass after the others, even with a good salary.
