Cheap moving van rental in Zurich

Hi all,

I'm moving out of my apt at the end of OCT and plan to do it myself with a few pals. Not moving far - maybe 10km total.

Appreciate all help in finding a cheap moving van to rent for 2-3 days - any ideas?

Thanks!

Probably about the same cost, and you could move inside one day, hire a man with a large van.

I fully agree with you Sbrinz, can't put anything in those little vans, a big van + a man is the way to go but ask a written quote beforehand.

Re: Cheap moving van rental in Zurich

OTTO's have quite large vans for hire, I think from 25CHF per hour.

Otherwise man with a van is the way to do it. There are a couple on this forum if you search.

Mobility? 4.40 chf per hour plus ~1 chf per km.

Re: Cheap moving van rental in Zurich

Thought I would revive this thread. Looking for a cheap mini van/transporter to rent over the weekend. Not having a lot of luck...Any suggestions, websites or contacts?

So far the ones I have seen from the bigger well known companies, well firstly arent open on weekends so it would be a Friday to Monday rental. which means 3 days instead of 2. And the cost is upwards of 500. Any one know of something around the 300 mark I can pick up and drop off Friday night to Sunday night?

You want it cheap, yet the rental period is probably the busiest for the rental company and you want somebody to work on a Sunday night when you take the van back ?

Somewhere you'll have to decide on which bits are important and which aren't and pay accordingly

What I love with English Forum! Nothing useful to say but say it any way!

If you have a company that works the weekend and rents vans please provide details, if you only have a company that works week days but is cheap please provide details, and I will make my decision and pay accordingly!

I think what "Today Only" pointed out is quite useful. If there is a company which is open on a Sunday, probably the cost is going to be high, similar to what you have right now.

If that is the case, best would be to check with your pals to move out on a weekday where you can return the van after a few hours of use. OTTOs for example.

Also, if weekend is a must, check with some of the car dealers like citroen or peugeot where they normally rent delivery vans and you can just drop the keys in their drop off box over the weekend.

Good luck!

Re: Cheap moving van rental in Zurich

I had a reasonable experience with Hertz - I rented a big van (Mercedes with a lifting ramp in the back, they claim capacity of up to 200 boxes) and for 2 days it was around CHF 280. I had no problem picking it up on Friday evening and returning on Sunday evening even thought the office was closed when returning, I just left the car there and dropped the keys in a safety box outside their office.

Re: Cheap moving van rental in Zurich

More than enough companies where you just park the car and drop the keys in a box. Just don't forget to take pictures of the car after parking. 3 yrs ago I parked late night at Zürich airport and the next day I got a call that there was a lot of damage, somebody had smashed a corner in that parking lot with thousands of damage and I could not proof it wasn't there when I parked it. Thankfully I had full insurance.

I don't know if this is relevant for you, but if you join the Mobility car sharing, you can rent large vans quite inexpensively and flexibly.

Obviously, you have to pay the Mobility membership to rent their cars, but it is quite a useful service. Mobility is explained quite well on their website in English.

I used rent-a-van.ch a few weeks back, was CHF 160 for a Saturday (24 hours). Pretty happy with them, did the moving job for me!

Not anymore: they have a "click & drive" subscription where you pay only the usage, no fixed costs at all. Of course it's a bit more expensive but not too much, and for 3/4 days of usage in a year it's more convenient.

I used Mobility a couple of times for moving furniture during weekends, I totally recommend it.

You can check out Sharoo, there are quite a couple of good options

https://app.sharoo.com/de?datetime_f...5B%5D=9&page=1

Do factor in the price you pay per km though. It used to be free but now they charge per km in addition to the fixed rate. After you select a van, you can estimate it with the slider. Might be worth considering if you don't have a Mobility membership

Re: Cheap moving van rental in Zurich

Perhaps check out Otto's. I've never used them, but renting from late Friday (pickup during their last open hour) through early Monday (return during their first open hour) should be available for some 300 CHF.

However, mind the kilometers. If the website is to be taken literally only 25km are included, with 50 Rappen for each additional km. I find it difficult to believe that such a rent would include 25km only but that's what it says.
