Pully - Lausanne - Vevey??

Hi everybody,
I am moving in some days to Switzerland and will start working in Vevey, and have the difficult task to find a place to live. I have been told to look on these three places, but I am not familiar with them so would not know which one is the best. Lausanne has more activities as I understand but is it worthwhile commuting every day to Vevey? Is Vevey really as small and boring as I Heard?
Last option, Pully, am afraid would also be away from my workplace and not with that many options as in Lausanne....
Any advise is welcome!
Thanks a lot

What type of housing are you looking for and what is your budget?

Re: Pully - Lausanne - Vevey??

Hi, Pully is effectively in Lausanne. It's a different commune but it's still within the greater Lausanne public transport network. Pully Nord may be cheaper (further from the lake).
The closer you can get to Pully train station the better as there is a stopping service to Vevey. Be aware that trains from Pully Nord will go (the wrong way) to Lausanne and then change for Vevey.

Fr. 1'800.-- for a 3 room apartment, as it is called (2 bedrooms + 1 sitting room), is cutting it a bit short for Pully.

Pully-Nord is not cheaper, it is quite humid by the lake, people favour being
slightly up the hill (nice views too).

How old are you? Vevey is calm and scenic, with a lovely lakeside and great walks in the area. If you are a younger person with a zest for nightlife and other activities, Lausanne would be the place.

Re: Pully - Lausanne - Vevey??

OP, you are going to have difficulties finding a 3-room apartment on that budget without going further afield and away from the lake. The area between Lausanne and Vevey (Lavaux) is beautiful and covered with vineyards along which the major train line runs with good connection to Vevey.

If the budget is really that tight, I would consider living on the western side of Lausanne which is cheaper, but also less charming, though the view of the lake is still pretty good. If you live along one of the major bus lines passing by the train station, you will have good connections to work. During rush hour there are also a number of direct trains between Lausanne and Vevey, specifically to take people to work in addition to the frequent regional train service.

That being said, if you are working for Nestle, I would advise you to not worry too much about housing until you get here. You may have already been provided with several advantages: temporary accommodation for several months and the services of a moving coordinator to put together your apartment dossier. I can also tell you that there is an internal marketplace on Nestle's servers for, among other things, listing apartments. People are moving in and out all the time and sometimes you can snag a good apartment from a previous tenant who is leaving, before the general public even know about it. Word of mouth is key...

And last of all, welcome to Romandie.
