US subletters have wrong permit for Swiss Caution - alternatives?

Theoretically we have US subtenants for 5 months soon, but they discover that Swiss Caution won't accept them unless they have a Swiss guarantor. Does anybody know of something similar which would accept them? Or is paying a few months' cash upfront their only option?

Ask your employer to be a guarantor for the money; some companies offer this but you have to normally ask.

I will suggest that to them! I think it's complicated, he is on loan to an NGO here so I don't know exactly the status of the employer, but it sounds like a good idea.

Bank guarantee from their own bank

But Swiss Caution apparently insist that the guarantor is Swiss, so a US bank won't do. ' Swiss Caution requires a guarantor with Swiss Nationality or B, C, or F residence permits'

If that's what they want then an NGO employer isn't going to make any difference since they'll have cartes de legitimation, not Swiss permits.

They have L permits. Is that bad?

Well, not a B, C or F is it? So same situation. All you/they can do is ask Swiss Caution if a guarantee from their employer would be good enough or not.

Yes, I think I am getting confused here. Hopefully they will be able to do that, though I gather they were investigating other options.

Possibly expensive lesson learnt here if it falls through as we had another perfectly suitable candidate who was French and presumably had a more suitable permit.

L is only a short stay Swiss permit so not surprised Swiss Caution won't accept that since it's for employment contracts of less than a year.

To make sure in future:

L permit (short stay) - employment contract of less than a year
B permit (residence) - employment contract for a year or more
C permit (establishment) - same employment conditions as B, but have been here so many years they're entitled to be treated almost as Swiss nationals.
F permit (provisionally admitted foreigners). Frankly, I'm a bit surprised Swiss Caution accepts these since they are issued to people who have been ordered to leave Switzerland. but for some reason cannot.

Thanks, very useful - of course for a sublet the required length of time will often be short. Our last subtenants used SC, so it didn't occur to me that there would be any issue. But they did indeed have B permits.
