mortgage - tenant rent

Guys

question for those who are renting a mortgaged house or flat.
Does your bank ask for the tenant rent to be deposited in a bank account with them, or can you choose your own bank ?

I've been renting for nearly ten years and now they want me to have the rent paid on the account I have with them. Is this common practice ? If yes, is that money normally locked away from you ?

Thanks.

The bank account you choose. Why would the bank want that to be in a different account?

Check your mortgage agreement but as long as you pay the mortgage the bank should be satisfied.

The guy I spoke to said it's written in the contract, but I haven't double checked yet. Still I do find it a bit irritating...Just wondering if this is a standard practice, looks like not.
