Less expensive alternatives to living directly in Zurich

Hello all,

There is a good chance my job will relocate to Zurich from Geneva area. Does anyone have suggestions for towns close by where rents are less expensive yet still provide a 15-20 minute train ride to Zurich HB? Having good access to bicycle trails, hiking, etc. would be great as well.

Thanks!

Have a look at the map, plenty of towns with lower taxes and rents just outside Zurich and still a good connection to HB

Normally when taxes are lower, rents are commensurately higher. A friend just took a place at Waldhuus. OK, the accommodation is not available in the long term (until end 2019) but the rents are very attractive.

Wadenswil has good train access to the HB and is cheaper than Zurich.

There are nice bike paths along the lake shore and behind Waedenswil and stretching towards Horgen and beyond, there's a great stretch of quiet country roads and tracks going through hilly farmland and loads of forests.

Oberland (Wetzikon/Rüti/Uster) also has good connections to Zürich.. 15-25min by train.. and fairly cheap rents with nature close by.
