Moving to Geneva area, as a frontalier

My wife and I are moving back to France, to be within easy distance of Geneva. We are looking for a house (to rent)as we have a dog. Having done something similar in the past I remember Seloger was a good site but this seems to have changed. Anyone know of a good method for rental house hunting in France? Many thanks.

You should probably sign up for Glocals as well and ask the question there. There are a lot more people there who might be able to offer specific advice.

You could also check for a French frontaliers website to ask your question(s). There is surely a FaceBook group that might work.

You might find some info in this Google search (you can fine tune it by saying département 01 et 74 which are the two that cover Geneva): https://www.google.ch/search?q=front...hrome&ie=UTF-8

Just try Googling "Location d'appartement/maison" "name of town", depending what you want and where. I just did a trial for Cruseilles and it came up with a wide range of stuff in that area.

Any particular area? I used to live in France near Geneva so could suggest contacts / landlords if it helps.

seloger always seemed useful, what's happened? If not visit the local agents in the nearest large town, they should have plenty of properties on their books.

Re: Moving to Geneva area, as a frontalier

Hi Neko, thanks for your reply. We rather fancy the area around/on Le Saleve - not Annemasse but more country areas. I have been looking using bot sites, like SeLoger but without much success. Also preferring a house rather than apartment.
Thanks again for any further suggestions.!

I went onto Le Dauphiné website which is their big regional newspaper:

http://www.ledauphine-immo.com/locat...oux-30775.html

I selected "location" for renting and entered Vetraz-Monthoux as it's just over the border. Not too many results but if you widen your search, you might strike lucky. Good luck.
The TGI local rag in Geneva often has small ads covering France as well.

Re: Moving to Geneva area, as a frontalier

My old landlord had several houses in the area but I've tried looking and he seems to have pulled his website. Annemasse agents cover a lot of the area, even if you don't want to be there they still have houses in the wider area. But Reignier has some at one end, Cruseilles too and there are plenty in St. Julien. But most properties listed tend to be newly built apartments which go up like mushrooms, houses are harder to find.

One tip is that living right below the Salève (Bossy, Collonges etc) can be cold in winter.

Re: Moving to Geneva area, as a frontalier

I know Machilly is getting popular with a train station serving Geneva. A bit dead as far as shops are concerned but St Cergues just across the railway line has it all.
