Where to buy clay roof tiles?

The cabin on my garden property needs proper ridge roof tiles - rather like these:

I don't need many, maybe 8 or so, depending on how long they are. But I can't seem to find roof tiles at any of the home improvement stores (Obi, Bau & Hobby, Hornbach, Toom).

Can one of your lovely people point me in the right direction? Oh, and they don't have to be new - if someone is dismantling their roof, I'm happy for the take-offs!

Re: Where to buy clay roof tiles?

Google for "dachziegel schweiz kaufen"
If it is only a few ridge tiles it should be no problem. However, if you are re-roofing a structure which was not designed to withstand the weight of a tiled roof, you may have a problem.

Re: Where to buy clay roof tiles?

The ridge tiles are called "Firstziegel".

You can keep an eye on ricardo, tutti etc, but you're probably faster to just go to a roofer and ask if they can sell you a few.

Take a sample with you (Although Firststein are pretty much all the same).

Take a sample with you. Ridge tiles are definitely not all the same (I talk from recent experience).

Thank you for your response.

To rest fears about the roof weight: the roof is currently tiled; I am only working on the ridge part.

Tom, what kind of differences are you referring to?

I understand that I should know the angle of the roof slope, but what else is important to consider?

I stand corrected.

Is it just me, or are the ridge tiles in DantesDame's photo above fitted the wrong way?

I believe the tiles in the illustration are expanded polyurethane models and not the real clay tiles.

Definitely angle of the roof slope but I seem to recall there was a difference in length too of a few cm.
We didn't dwell on it too long as it was about to pour with rain and the new ones needed to go on.
(The old ones, stored diligently in the loft, and which too me ages to retrieve, didn't actually fit the roof ridge in it's current form).

Length, height, width, shape (as in how the rounding has to be) type of connection.

If you replace the whole row there is much more freedom, if you want to connect on existing ones you will find yourself limited while there really are hundreds of diff ones (tho there are standards, but old roofs often hardly care for standards.)

The roof currently has a metal plate for the ridge line. This has rusted through in parts and (IMO), looks like shit I am not looking for Amazing Spaces' Shed of the Year award here, but I thought that as long as I'm going to replace the existing material, I might as well go a step further and get something that looks better.

Therefore, I'll be replacing the entire ridge and it doesn't have to look "perfect". Just as long as the rain doesn't get in and the wind doesn't blow it off...

Re: Where to buy clay roof tiles?

Based on my post above, is it conceivable that I could pick up some of these and just lay them down?

Re: Where to buy clay roof tiles?

You need to visit some of the more specialty building stores. Around here Getaz Romang has them, https://www.getaz-miauton.ch, there are some of their stores in Basel, but each a bit different, so check ahead, some are specialized in building materials, other sanitary, etc.

I'm no expert in those types of tiles, but I've seen at least the end pieces anchored by cement so think something like that is necessary for top.

My garden shed roof is of another material, but I already decided to replace with this the next time around, found at hornbach. In case you consider replacing the whole thing, and with these panels its like one bit sheet in one go.

You mention above that the old ridge has rusted through.

Could you post a pic, and perhaps approximate dimensions?

I'll be at the garden today and will take photos/measurements.

Yep, my garden neighbor did that and even offered me their leftover pieces. But that's a bigger task (and cost) than we want to take on right now, so I'll just keep on poking around for the clay ridge pieces.
