air conditioner installation

A friend of mine removed his multi-split type air conditioner as he doesn't need them anymore. They seem like a good fit for my place. Can anyone recommend technicians who can install this for a house? Can I just call FUST and ask them to install it?

Re: air conditioner installation

I can’t recommend FUST for anything other than, perhaps, over-the-counter sales. Nothing but headaches.

Do you have planning permission to install it?

Best to double check even in one's own house. . One's home is not always one's castle here.

Neighbors have been known to object to the noise of a condenser, especially if it is running at night. Or the unit might be in violation of neighborhood design rules. Or an eco-minded neighbor might have a bee in his bonnet, or any number of reasons, real or perceived. You'd hate to install the AC then get hit with an order to remove it due to a neighbor's objection.

So check the neighborhood (as in, Quartier or other form of homeowner's association) regulations to see if there are any barriers, then ask an obliquely worded general question of the Bauamt.

Chances are you won't have any problems... but often it is wise to play it safe and double check.

If there is ever any doubt over whether something is allowed, it's often best to use a local tradesman. Your local electric guy will likely know what is or is not allowed... and if you need permission might be able to help get that too - or smooth over ruffled feathers if it comes to that.

Good luck with the project.

You assume wrongly, unless no part of it exits the house.

A friend mentioned the other day they they got in trouble for installing an AC unit recently without first contacting the planning commission for permission, despite a) their being locals b) their being friends with most members of the planning commission c) it being there own home d) in Ticino and e) it being a portable unit.

Re: air conditioner installation

The „in Ticino“ bit made me laugh. Thanks, Tom.
