Eglisau, Knonau, or Oberglatt?

So!
After all the rental application stories and rants I shared with you, today we finally had some positive answers.

Now, the Sophie's choice is between three flats in Eglisau, Knonau, and possibly/hopefully Oberglatt. The flats are quite similar in ticking our boxes: Recent build, near Bahnhof, etc. The one on Oberglatt is not recent but quite nice.

Does anybody have opinions/experiences about living in any of these towns?

P.S. We (will) work near Zurich HB.

Re: Eglisau, Knonau, or Oberglatt?

We live nr Hausen am Albis - approx 10km east of Knonau but no direct experience of living there. It's a lovely area, stunning countryside and views, locals are super friendly, great hiking and outdoor life, well served by public transport, the only supermarket in ZH canton open on a Sunday outside the city, & good choice of local restaurants. Easy access to Zurich/Luzern/Zug et al.

If you need anything further insights feel free to PM me.

Re: Eglisau, Knonau, or Oberglatt?

We lived in Oberglatt for 2 years and we were very, very happy to leave. We were only a few minutes walk from the train station so that was convenient but also very noisy.... you need to take the cargo trains into account. The plans take off right over Oberglatt too - perhaps another point to consider.

Re: Eglisau, Knonau, or Oberglatt?

It's probably too late now, but Knonau has a great ice cream shop which is open Sundays and late on a Friday and Saturday evening...

Jus'sayin', that's all...

Re: Eglisau, Knonau, or Oberglatt?

Eglisau is handy station as it has trains going off in different directions.
It's got the direct line to Waldshut, Germany - for tax-free shopping etc.

A direct connection to Jestetten - again for shopping in Germany (but not tax free as no Ausfuhr facilities in Jestetten station).

Direct connection to Schaffhausen, Bülach, Zurich for work, other etc.

I guess if you are looking for somewhere quiet, it's Eglisau as it's a small place, not much happening.

Other than the fact that Marton and I live here, Eglisau is pretty good. I'm not all that impressed by some of the new construction (some are just concrete people boxes maximising the land usage), but it's relatively quiet without being all too provincial, and you're in Germany and Zürich pretty quick.
