School quality in Bülach?

Hi all!

Anyone living in Bülach who has kids of kindergarden or school age?
I am thinking of buying an apartment there and have tried to get some information about how life is in general and especially regarding schools, but with no big success. There are a couple of old threads in the forum but they focus mostly on airplane noise, which I dont think is that bad in Bülach based on official state measurements..
I don't know why but without any sold information, I had a bit of a bad impression about Bülach but when I visited the apartment I liked the area and the old city was surprisingly nice.
One thing I want to make sure before moving there is that it's not a kind of a ghetto of specific minorities which usually creates a problem in schools..
I don't mean to sound racist, I am an expat myself (greek) and I honestly wouldn't like my kid going to a school in Switzerland with lots of other greek kids and hanging out only with them...
I know people that moved out of Schlieren, Dietikon or even places in Zürich like Schwamendingen because their kids were bullied or even beaten by groups of other kids which were usual part of an ethnic minority.
So if anyone has some experiences about the area and the schools I would be happy to hear them.

Re: School quality in Bülach?

I suggest you try this:
  1. Look up all the schools in Bülach on the map.
  2. Next, google them all, and read about them, on their official pages, and any others, such as Facebook or blogs.
  3. Go there and walk around the perimeter of each school's grounds, and walk the route between that school and the flat you are considering buying. For each school, do this in the morning as the children are arriving at school, at lunchtime when they are on their way home or to child-care ("Hort"), and then in the afternoon as some return from lunch, and later when they go home. You might consider doing this for sporting facilities, too. Preferably not all on the same day, per school, so you don't end up looking like a creep.
  4. Remember that like all institutions, Schools are only what they are at that time, since the children, parents and staff change. Therefore, the schools for your children's ages are relevant, as the schools for older children might have changed by the time your children get there (if that's a few years from now).

Re: School quality in Bülach?

hello.. i'm a born swiss i we lived for short time there.
i would not move there.

The foreigners amount is about 30%.. but this does not really contain like educated ones or Expacts..
The education level in the schools are lowered because of that. That would be reason enough for me to find something else. Because even you child could learn more they will be not really pushed in a school where there are ore foreigners than natives.

i think good places with good schools are Kilchberg, Thalwil, Wädenswil, Meilen, Männedorf and those areas.

I would say the higher the rent the better the schools (does not apply to zurich city)
