Wasching machine per n-families stahdart?

Hello,
I have done search in the forum, but it seems there is still not such topic.
So the question is basically, as pointed in the title, is there here in Switzerland any kind of a law which force the building owners to ensure certain number of washing machines depending of the number of the families in the building?
In my case we are 10 families to share one washing machine.
So I wonder is there any serious way to suggest to the house owner that this must be changed.
I am sure I am not the only one here.

Thanks in advance!

Probably not. But if there is it's quite a low machine to family ratio.
We have two machines for 3 buildings. 30 apartments.

No

Do you have a rota of using the machine?

Re: Wasching machine per n-families stahdart?

We make a rota in the beginning of the month.
There is however not granted quota per family. No rules at all for how much a single family can use the machine.
If I come and fill in the list 1st -3rd is fine, but then there are not too much free slots left.

Re: Wasching machine per n-families stahdart?

the official rule is that there needs to be 1 washing machine per 40 people. Babies count as 2, toddlers as 1.75, primary school age as 1.45 and elderly people as of 65 as 0.9.

This is check bi-annually by the Eidgenossische Familiensauberheitsbehörde.

If you want to complain, send them a letter.

In such case I'd buy my own machine.

We have two laundry rooms in the building with each a laundry machine and a dryer, and we have two hanging rooms and we're only 7 apartments.

I was considering this idea.
There is however no too much available space in the apartment(otherwise 100m2) suitable for this.

Just one tiny second toilet room(55*60 cm free space) with no suitable for the purpose plumbing and electricity.

Kitchen or main bath room
Yup, and extension cord and the waste water well.. don't forget to hang the hose in the shower or bathtub each time.

Not ideal, but better than having to wait 3 days till the machine is there for you.

Take out the toilet in the main bathroom and put the machine there.

Thanks for all the replies so far..
Then - do you have any idea how much it will cost new plumbing?
I doubt however that the construction with extension cord would be approved by the respective company, which means that there will be need for additional electricity supply - any experience here?

Or a front loader and bring it high up.

Get the ok from the landlord first.

What company? Get a washing machine (see above), plug in the plug and make sure to hang the hose into the shower area to get rid of waste water if there is no connection for a washing machine

If it was so simple I would not ask here for help.

I got OK from the landlord, but external company must make or approve the connections(water/s and electricity). 100% such flexible connections would not be approved by the, because they also are responsible in case of damage and for sure will be happy to earn some CHFs.

You were complaining about the lack of washing machines and didn´t mention this.

Afaik electricity should not be an issue.

If there's just adults in your household, you can do most of your washing in the kitchen sink: underwear, socks, shirts no problem; trousers and skirts less easy but doable; bedsheets can wait till the machine is free.

If you have small children, please ignore the previous paragraph and accept, instead, my sympathy.

There is however not granted quota per family. No rules at all for how much a single family can use the machine.
If I come and fill in the list 1st -3rd is fine, but then there are not too much free slots left.
If there is a form that any tenant can write into, have a good look at the lenght of the slots.

On the old forms, it was usual for the allocation to be for a whole day or even two days at once.
Frau Meier Monday and Tuesday
Herr Kraskoval Wedneday and Thursday
Ms Englisher Friday and Saturday,
and so on.

This is no longer a common system. Nowadays, it is usual for there to be, for example:
7h-11h, 11h-14h, 14h-18h, 18h-22h, or some such division, at the very least morning, afternoon and evening.

If you have the old system, then ask your neighbours and caretaker if you could switch to the new system. Then encourage your neighbours to reserve for one slot, or two, at a time.
Monday
7h-11h Frau Meier
11h-14h Ms Englisher
14h-18h Ms Englisher
18h-22h Herr Kraskoval

Tuesday
7h-11h Herr Kraskoval (nur trocknen / drying only)
11h-14h Mr Maric
14h-18h Herr Happyman
18h-22h Frau Meier

In this way, everyone gets access to the machine more frequently, and then gets in there, does one or two loads, and gets out again, leaving the space free for the next person.

The question will arise about where to dry the clothing. Some laundries have clothes-lines, some have a tumbler, some have an extractor fan.
You also have the option to get a clothes-horse / drying rack, and hang up your clothes in your flat. This is not strictly allowed, but there won't be any problem as long as you are very disciplined about not letting condensation build up (fling open all the windows every hour or two, for a few minutes, creating a draught till all the air in your flat has been exchanged with fresh air from outside).

Come on, no-one has the time to do their washing by hand. I have done it many times as a child when we visited my grandma but these days, in Switzerland?

Besides I am not sure if the kitchen sink and underwear with skid marks are a good match. Of course we can argue the sink contains more bacteria then the underwear but either way it is best to do it in the bathroom sink or get a plastic basin to do it on the floor if you have the inclination to do laundry by hand.

It might be worth looking into a camping washing machine.
