We Need Some Help!

Hi folks,

Me and my partner are in desperate need for help.

We came to Geneva as tourist and a few things happened to us that now we are homeless here.

We were robbed when we got here, then my partner had 3 heart attacks and a stroke in a course of 1 year and half.

Right now we are almost close to get our situation resolved to leave Geneva. He is trying to deal with his bank to get his cards delivered here, and with the United States Embassy to get me a visa and him his passport, but since we don't have a home, is hard to get things going faster.

We tried many associations here in Geneva, but since we are a gay couple we find very hard to get help. Churches and association turned their back to as as soon as they knew, plus we have a very small dog(sausage dog).

There is on association for LGBT people in need that promised us a studio for 3 months for free, but right now it's been 4 weeks since we talked to them and they don't answers us back.

If y'all have any suggestions to help get our situation resolved, we would appreciate very very much.

Meanwhile, we are volunteering for a few associations in Geneva.
We can meet if y'all want to know us better and know more details about our situation.

Jett

Re: We Need Some Help!

You came to Switzerland as tourists, bringing along a small dog?

You were - both! - robbed one-and-a-half years ago? After the theft(s), you must have reported to the Swiss police. Have you and your partner both had zero papers, from either of your countries since then?

If your partner has not had replacement bank cards before now, why not?

Have you had enough money, up till now, to support you both?

You're Brazilian, your partner is from the USA - have you reported to your embassy, too?

Since your tourist status in Switzerland must long be over, it sounds like you are now here illegally. What do the Swiss authorities say you should be doing?

1 - We did report to the police;
2 - My partner have been hospitalized 4 times + rehabilitation
3 - I do have my passport. My partner doesn't have his yet;
4 - We had cash to get around for some time;
5 - My partner had his bank account blocked because of what happened to him.
6 - We both reported to the embassy. I cannot go back to brazil because i don't have anything left there. I can only go to the US with him, and for that, i need a US Visa.
The US embassy can flight him right away, but he will not leave without me.
7 - Since we are "illegally", if he goes back to the US to resolve directly with the bank there, he might not be able to come back to get me, and he is afraid of flying without me.
8 - There is a private bank here in Geneva that is a representative of his bank. They can only do so much and they need forms and documents in order for them to get authorized to take actions here. He did filled a few forms already. We are only waiting for answers

My family doesn't support me, because i'm gay.
My partner has no parents anymore, plus we already asked money from a few frinds while he was hospitalized.

Sorry, but this does not ring true in Switzerland in 2018:

"since we are a gay couple we find very hard to get help. Churches and association turned their back to as as soon as they knew"

Which churches did you approach?

Re: We Need Some Help!

Typically, the more fundamentalist the church, the more discriminatory (and even hateful) against gays. The so-called "reformed" church, however, and even some of the Catholic churches tend to be less rejecting.

You say your partner had 3 heart attacks and a stroke. Then he must have been in hospital for a long period?

Yes. "United Methodist Church of Geneva". Also no feedback from them.
From all 15 churches i wrote, only one answered me. The pastor is in London, and will try to see if she can do anything to help.

There was 2 Pastors who actually blocked me when i tried to discuss the situation.

This means you are free to travel. You are free to return to Brazil (even though I do understand that you don't want to do that).
Why can it have taken 18 months for the USA government to issue him with a replacement passport?

Can you explain? Why would any of what happened cause his account to be blocked? Did he block the accounts himself when reporting the theft? In that case sending him the replacement cards should have been a fairly straightforward process, I would have thought. What went wrong?

No, this is not all strictly the case. You are a Brazilian Citizen, so you can always go back to Brazil. It is not that you cannot, but that you do not want to (which I can understand).

He can leave Switzerland, too, and return home to the US, right away, since the US embassy is offering to help him.

It sounds as if you are hoping that the situation will be resolved (sounds a bit like "magically") such that you will be issued with a US visa. But on what basis would that visa be issued? And if you do have proof of your reasons, why has it not already been issued? What is in the way?

Yes, he is illegal, and he might not be let into Switzerland again. The same is true for you.
He will not "come back to get you" anyway, even if he were allowed into the country, because, as you say "he is afraid of flying without you".

It may sound harsh, but I think your partner is going to have to go back to the US to sort out his life, without you, to start with.

It doesn't seem likely that a government of any country would be ready to issue a visa to someone who has already proved his readiness to stay in a country illegally for over a year. My guess (though of course I don't know it exactly) is that you are much more likely to get a visa to enter the USA if you, yourself, get back into a situation where you are "legal" (= in Brazil) rather than "illegal" (= in Switzerland).

Re: We Need Some Help!

If you can post all this here, you have access to a computer or tablet or phone.

Access your bank through that and wire some money over from your bank account in the US. Or at least you can contact your account rep that way and ask for help.

In my experience churches are not unwilling to help anyone, Maybe if you contacted some very strict one, no, but others will definitely help anyone if they were in a situation like yours.
