Re: Working in Pfäffikon - Freienbach SZ - Help where to live

I am living here at Pfaffikon for 4 years as an expat with my family.

It is a quiet village. Half of center of the village is about business. The other half is for people to live.

There are not so many "crowd" place for children to play wither other boys/girls.

Churerstrase 92 area is probably one of the best area for family with children as 1) there are several blocks of apartment, makes it more living feel 2) 8min walking distance to train station 3) 5min walking distance to Seedam center which is the biggest shopping center in this area

Hi guys,

Most probably I will get an offer to work in Pfäffikon - Freienbach SZ area.

We (2 adults + 7 years old kid) are currently located in Fribourg, Switzerland. It is very far to think about a daily commute so a moving would be necessary.

Here I would need some tips where you think could be the best places where we could live. I've been a couple of times in Pfäffikon for F2C interview and honestly I did not see it interesting for a family life (I could be wrong but it was my first impression)

We are quite happy in Fribourg, as we like the life style we get here. It is a medium size city, we live in the outskirts of the city in a quiet area but it allows us to arrive downtown easily in 15 minutes walking. We have most of the services we need and there are kids enough in the area, so my family has an acceptable social life.

We do not like big cities, just a medium size like Fribourg is offering us. Considering these would be our preferences, do you know any places where we could move and the commute time to work should not be very long?

Another vote for Pfaffikon. We are living here 3.5 years, before as a couple with a dog and now as a couple with a dog and a little girl)
We moved here from appointment in the middle of Zurich. And we never regret about our choice.
My husband works in Zürich, so he drives every day. Takes about 45-50 min door to door. Before out baby was born I used to work in Zurich and Zig. I also drived every day and for me it was a pleasure. And now with a kid it's a perfect place to live! Food shops open until 21.00 in Seedam, summer time our Badi is one of the best on the Zurich lake and it's for free, we have all type of schools here so you can start and finish your education not even leave the town. There are a huge expat community here. So your kid and your wife would not feel lonely. And as a previous people told you to go for a coffee to Lachen or Sunday brunch in Wadenswill it's super easy

  • Einsiedeln - As village we liked it a lot. It looked for us to reach the minimum size we are expecting. It looks you can reach most places in walking distance and nature is just in front of you, with a nice lake. Our concerns here, is that is not well communicated by public transport to ZH and Pfäffikon. Also concerned how easily would be for us to make some social links, considering what I could read in this post
You need to check the train timetable at sbb.ch carefully. There is a train every half hour to Zürich. And the whole journey takes less than an hour.
Same for Pfäffikon too - that's just counting the direct trains. There are even more if you go via Wädenswil. OK, it's usually quicker to drive to Pfäffikon than take the train, but there are still lots of trains to choose from! Your difficulty may comes if you are also relying on buses, which don't run as often outside peak times.

There are also plenty of expat people around the area too. So, don't dismiss it too soon!

If you are still looking for an apartment, our 4.5 room place in Pfäffikon Sz would be free for rent from around the end of June (short-term let is also possible if you wanted to try it). It is located at Churerstrasse 92 which I noticed other users recommended :-) We have two small children and have been exceptionally happy here for the last four years. It is extremely family friendly and there is a large area for playing and socialising outside.

We are only leaving due to finding a house to buy, which is also in the area. Please PM for more info.
