| | IWB Bill Strom I & Strom II
Hi,
Can someone please tell me what Strom I & Strom II refer to on an IWB invoice?
Is this peak/day time electricity and off-peak/night time electricity consumption?
If so, what are the start/end times for off-peak?
The reason for my question is that my bills were already high and have steadily increased, as shown below (for StromI, StromII, Wasser & Gas) and I'm trying to determine what we can do, to make some reduction(s):
2016: CHF3'973
2017: CHF4'280
2018: CHF4'587
The property is 1954 semi-detached house, which was fully renovated. Now has triple glazing, new roof and under floor heating.
We have mostly LED lighting and there are three of us living in the house (2 adult and one 5 yr old).
Before I approach IWB to make some checks, I'm curious to know what others pay.
Thanks in advance

Here an explained example bill. There is no Strom 1 and Strom 2 on it Maybe you have two meters? https://www.iwb.ch/dam/jcr:1d4ac59c-...erung_fact.pdf
IWB has the following:
Peak time (Normalltarif) is Mo - Fr. 08:00 to 20:00
Off peak (Spartarif) is all other times.
If you do not have a meter which can switch it will be billed as Einzeltarif.
From your bill you should see from what parts the increase come from. Is it gas, water, or electricity? Is it due a price increase or a consumption increase. A leaking tab can cost you a fortune!

Off peak may vary from company/canton to canton.
Your electricity company's website will have the details.
However, your electricity costs seem high and only KWH consumption will verify. But I can't imagine Basel chanrges so much more than Zurich.
We have a 10-year old detached house. 150 sq metres of living area, air heat pump for heating and hot water. LEDs wherever possible. 2 persons. Year are May to May - actual date of meter reading may cause variations.
2016 - 2017 heat pump = CHF 621
2017 - 2018 heat pump = CHF 608
2016 - 2017 electricty = CHF 862 (part LED lighting)
2017 - 2018 electricity = CHF 794 (full LED lighting)

Thanks for the feedback ... yes my bills certainly seem high.
My bills include electricity, water and gas.
I'm assuming that you do not have gas, but what are your water costs?

How much m^3 of water and kw/h of gas and electricity did you use? And as said, you should see from the bill where the increases come from. Is it more consumption or is it simply due to higher prices but same or even lower consumption.

We have no gas.
Water 2017/18 was 148 cu mtrs @ CHF0.80 = 186.40 + 2.5% VAT = CHF191.05
But Sewage based on water usage CHF491.70...

Update on this topic.
Recently received the April invoice total CHF 1'546
Strom: CHF 442
Gas: CHF 814
Wasser: CHF 180
Abwasser: CHF 110
The invoice is only one page and shows no figures, i.e. consumption for basis of the invoice, just the above amounts.
I wrote to IWB and requested copies of previous invoices, with the corresponding consumption calculations/figures ... they responded requesting a payment of CHF40 to process this request.
I've since wrote back saying now I only want the figures/consumption for the April invoice just received ... awaiting feedback.
Is it normal that you pay for something, without actually knowing what you are paying for?

Weird as you now have no chance to see what actually was used. AFAIk there always has to be a break down attached to the invoice.

OK, I've received a response.
I receive 3 invoices each year.
Invoice 1 + 2 are estimates and are one third of my annual consumption from the previous year.
Prior to receiving the third invoice, I will be asked to provide a meter reading, after which IWB will issue the third invoice.
The third invoice essentially summarizes the total consumption for the last 12 months and the pre-payments (invoice 1 + 2) I've made, will be deducted from the final invoice.
The above is based on my understanding of the German explanation provided below ...
geleisteten Akontozahlungen wieder in Abzug gebracht.

You're understanding correctly. The next bill will be the 3rd and final one for their billing year, it will be for the difference between what you actually consumed and what you already paid with the current bill and that from last December.
In order to do the final calculation they need to know your actual consumption, so prior to that bill they'll send you a card (late in July or early in August) where you have to enter what the various meters show. So if you're on holidays during that time it would be a good idea to inform them about it.
