Moving from UK to CH, Baden and surrounding villages

Hi everyone,
thanks so much for your advice in the forum! I'm new here. We're relocating from the UK to Baden area next year. Having read all past posts about Baden area, I still have some questions I couldn’t find answer to. Hope anyone could help? I’d really appreciate it!
My situation is: I will start a new role 1st March. We try to move (my husband and 3 yr old daughter) in April. I saw that it is soooo difficult to get an apartment, for people already in CH, let alone for us who are not there yet. My husband is German, I'm originally from China. We both have German passports. We‘re moving from England to CH. To be honest, we’re Brexit excapees, so we want to move rather sooner than later.
I have the following questions
- What are the main trade offs of the following towns around Baden?
o Daetwill (good school, nice modern apartments, but traffic jam to Baden?)
o Niederrohrdorf (traffic jam to Baden? How about the schools here?)
o Nussbaumen,
o Untersiggenthal,
o Gebenstorf,
o Turgi, (my friends didn’t like Turgi, saying she didn’t like the local culture there)
o Rieden,
o Neuenhof
o Wettingen (we love nature, not sure if Wettingen would be a good place for us? Also because we’re not here yet, it will be very hard for us to compete against others right?)
- Additionally, I wonder if living along the Sbahn line from Zurich to Brugg would make sense? Are there places to avoid? (e.g. very loud, not good childcare etc.?)
- I read through the horror stories of getting an apartment. Would a relocation agency increase my chance to get an apartment? Since my husband is a German lawyer, we’re fine with the language and contract reading stuff. So we were thinking of saving some money and try our luck. But want to hear your opinion?
- Timing of move. I originally thought I will start in 1. Mar and then look for a family apartment once I’m here. But later learnt that, it may drag to July due to the 3 month notice period. Also my husband can’t hold 3 months with my 3 yr old alone. So what would help us if we want to move in Apr? And get an apartment before we’re physically in the country?
- I’m yet to check the moving companies from UK to CH. But if you have any advice, I’d really be very grateful!
Really appreciate anyone’s advice! That would be so helpful in this stressful period of my family.

Re: Moving from UK to CH, Baden and surrounding villages

Well, I was surprised that there was no reply to my question. Nonetheless, I really appreciate all the info here. Since I spent 3 days around Baden perhaps I’ll write a bit about my experience.

First of all, we over estimated the difficulty of renting an apartment from aboard. My relocation manager gave me the tip of cover letter with pics, me and my hubby’s contracts, IDs etc. So we made a dossier and took it during the apartment visit. It seems to me that the owners and agencies are very keen on having us so we got a Zusage in 2 days. (without needing the Betreibungsregister)

In the end we decided on Dätwill for the child care and proximity to Baden, in Sommer I can take a bike to work! Love that. And I really like the Taba there, so hopefully my daughter can be taken care of during kindergarten holidays.

In 3 days I could only get superficial experience of the other places of course. I guess where to live is highly dependent on one’s preference. I also loved the nature and space around Niderrohrdorf and Oberrohrdorf. The traffic by bus from that direction to Baden doesn’t seem to be bad as there was a new bus lane in Lindenplatz.

I also had really nice experience in Baden Anmeldestelle. I explained that I don’t want to spend too long apart from my daugher, therefore we have a tight schedule moving soon. The lady even allowed me to register. This experience was so much better compared to my previous experience in Munich.

If anyone has similar questions I’d be happy to share my experience so far. Now we’re arranging for removal from UK, all other logistic stuff.

Actually, Turgi is great. It's a calm little village, you just need to make sure that you're towards the ABB side of the station. Similarly, you cant go wrong with Untersiggenthal either, especially regarding schools etc. Baden by bus is 20 mins max, never had to deal with traffic and if you take the train from Turgi it's <5 mins.
