What if I buy an apartment in Ferney?

Happy New Year!

While searching for an apartment, I found this https://www.pap.fr/annonce/vente-app...r421400795?u=1

I can afford first contribution which is 53000. I can pay ~2700 monthly, that is also ok.

The only thing is I don't know if non-EU citizen can purchase an apartment in France?

Don't know if you can buy it. But you cannot live in it.
Your permit will be for Switzerland, not France.
I think they are still two different countries.

Seems to me the question should be asked of a lawyer.

A lawyer in France who is familiar with the matters related to buying a property.

As you seem to be non-EU citizen, it may be not a straightforward process, but should be definitely doable.

Also, align with your future employer in CH (they've already submitted your residence permit application I guess) that you're considering to live in France and to commute to Geneva from there, as it has an impact on the type of residence permit you need.

AFAIK there are several conditions to be met before getting a G permit, none of that actually influenced by your employer?

"Grenzgängern aus Drittstaaten kann eine Grenzgängerbewilligung nur erteilt werden, wenn sie ein dauerhaftes Anwesenheitsrecht in einem Nachbarstaat der Schweiz besitzen und seit mindestens sechs Monaten in der Grenzzone wohnhaft sind. Außerdem sind die arbeitsmarktlichen Vorschriften zu beachten."

For non EU persons you first need to have lived for some time in that country and have a residency permit there before being able to apply for a G permit (Grenzgänger/frontalier)

The first thing that popped into my mind is ‘Why the hell would anyone want to buy an apartment in Ferney?’.

Maybe because it's located so close to CH that many places can be reached in Vaud and Geneva just easier than from other (not so well located) Swiss towns?

Ferney is a lovely place anyway.

Ah! Yes, Divonne is very nice, Ferney isn’t.
