Building management company stressing me out

Hi there,

So I was renting an apartment for past two years in Lausanne. Actually still renting it. During the summer 2018 I lost my job and was with ORP for few months. In the beginning I was planning to find a job in the near by places (Lausanne/Geneva/Freiburg), but then towards the end of the year (in December) I received a job contract from one of the biggest internet company based in Zurich. For many people it's a dream company so I decided to accept the offer and moved to Zurich. They didn't give me enough time to settle my things and so I moved to Zurich in rush leaving my apartment in Lausanne empty.

In January I decided to vacate the apartment and contacted the building management company to know the process. I was told that I have to pay the rent till end of September 2019 and termination the contract by giving 4 months notice period. The notice was supposed to be on 1st or 15th of the month. Or I should find a new tenant who can take over my remaining lease.

In the begging I thought Airbnb it till September but the building
Management said they wouldn't allow it. Then I thought of subletting it for which they said I should find some who earns enough and they have to apply one month in advance for the application to get approved.

Then I decided to leave the apartment for good by finding a new tenant. In the second week of January I arranged viewings and one Swiss person was very interested in the apartment ( also she was willing to take all the furniture). She wanted this apartment for her brother. So I thought the problem was solved and I was kind of helping her and decided not to arrange more viewings (my bad). The building management sat on the application for the first week and they demanded more papers from her. The second week they asked her to become the guaranter - she did handover the documents. In the third week they were still deciding on her case. I was frustrated and decided to show the apartment to few more people and travelled to Lausanne on weekend. One more person (French) showed interest and he applied the very next day. He had a good job with a reputed French bank and I thought things would work. However because he was supposed to be here for a short assignment till the end of the year, they asked his company to become the guaranter. Again this time they sat on the application for two weeks and finally approved it. But during this time the man changed him mind and they started showing him bigger apartments.

I'm really not sure how to deal with them. They have my apartment keys for arranging viewings. No idea why they take so long to process the applications. Is this normal?

Cheers,
Gem

Are you a member of Asloca? It's the tenants association for the French-speaking parts of the country. Same as Mieterverband you often see mentioned for the German-speaking parts.

Yes this is normal, and I fail to see what the company is doing wrong. Nor do I see what Asloca can do for you in this.

Just find somebody to takeover who will not change his mind.
