I need to hire a scaffold tower. Any ideas?

Hello there
I’m in need of some local knowledge. We’re Londoners, but are coming to Gstaad to paint the exterior of a chalet. We need to hire a scaffolding tower but have no idea about local hire shops. Any pointers very gratefully received.
Thanks!

You probably should check out the local regs, too, depending on the size and extent of it.

I’m sure there was a similar thread on here and it had to signed off or authorised or some such.

Just a heads up.

Re: I need to hire a scaffold tower. Any ideas?

Thanks for this. But I was after a mobile scaff tower, one that is pre-assembled, that comes on wheels. I’d normally hire it from a hire shop in the UK (like HSS Hire, or a large builders merchant if they hire out tools), rather than a scaffolding company that rig things bespoke, if that makes sense.
Do you know of any large, trade building shops? Thanks again!

In general terms a roof plumber or dachdecher here will be cheaper than a scaffold company. Obi or a big hardware chain also do equipment hire.

Doable for a short period, if you need it for like a month or even longer I would consider buying a 2nd handed one and selling it again when money is an issue.

Can confirm: scaffolding is ruinously expensive to hire. When we built our house, it was one of the single biggest line items on the bill.

On top of the cost you've also got to transport it (depending on the amount you need) and that can also be expensive.

Another problem you may have is that they will insist on mounting it for you unless you can prove you are a qualified builder. The last time we put up scaffolding we paid about CHF 20 a m2, but that included the transport and erection as well as dismantling and taking away.

We also had to ask for a permit from the commune so you should inquire there as well. The commune will also insist on you giving a security plan to prevent people (kids especially) from climbing over it.

Not sure you can hire a scaffold tower as you describe in CH.

Do a Google with

échafaudage Gstaad and you will get a few results - but cost will be CHF!!!

He is looking for a roller, those can just be hired without any extra conditions or certificates needed, they give you a drawing on how to build it and it is easier than building IKEA stuff.

Also when being a company extra regulations may apply depending on insurance and such.

What you are talking about is whole different stuff.

Re: I need to hire a scaffold tower. Any ideas?

You can buy one in Hornbach, in French they are called "pont roulant" and are not wildly expensive. They are relativley unstable, be sure you assemble it correctly and i suggest you attach the top of the tower directly to the chalet with a rope or something to ensure stability.

You do not need commune approval by the simple fact scaffolding is a totally and fully de mountable structure. Can you imagine the amount of paperwork and administration for each and every erection of scaffolding......

Depending on the use, whether it is roof repair or painting will determine the cost, it is around Chf 6.--/m2 for roof scaffolding and about Chf 8.--/m2 for painting.

I've just installed solar panels and needed scaffold for the roof and last year i had a chalet painted.

I talk from experience

Scroll to the bottom for a map of their locations, assuming this is a professional action I will not stop you from doing some research yourself
