Electricity Bill

I left in Switzerland at the end of this January. And the contract of my apartment terminated on the same date as I left Switzerland. Before leaving the country, I forgot to inform the electricity company that I was leaving the apartment at the end of January.
Last week I received an electricity bill from 03.2018 to 03.2019. Because I was not in the apartment for the last two month, I asked the electricity company to recalculate the invoice. However, they said I had to pay the bill for the whole term since it is my fault that I didn’t cancel the electricity contract at the end of January.
In this case, I really have to pay the bill for the whole period? And what will happen if I don’t pay the electricity bill? (I don’t have any asset in Switzerland)

Re: Electricity Bill

Yes, it's your obligation to inform them about you moving out. You made a mistake (albeit one quite some people do, but the rules are clear cut in that case)

I'd pay up (suppose it's less than 100 CHF) since otherwise you might get into trouble in case you ever enter Switzerland again. And be it just as transfer pax. Or if laws would be changing, and Swiss debt would be collectible abroad easier, too (and then with hefty interests and extra charges)

Dear YuropFlyer,
Thank you for your kind advice. I will pay it since there is high chance of coming back to Switzerland.
