Belmont sur Lausanne

Hi, we’ve just moved from the UK and are looking at places to rent, specifically in the Belmont sur Lausanne or Lutry areas near Lausanne. Is there anyone familiar with these areas who would please be able to give some guidance as to schooling in these areas, as a good primary and secondary school would be one of our priorities when choosing housing. Thank you in advance.

In Switzerland schools all offer the same curriculum and the same quality. Choice of schools should be the least of your worries (unless you are looking for international schools).

Good luck.

Absolutely not, difference between schools is enormous here, curriculum is different between cantons and even districts within cities have different rules of how they enforce the curriculum. Certain communes have lots of money and you can see it in their school system. There is a day and night difference between same level school in Renens and Epalinges (just an example)

Top pick in Lausanne would be Epalinges or Le Mont. Lutry Pully and roundabouts are not as good

Re: Belmont sur Lausanne

If income matters, just choose the commune with highest income. Check this map http://www.estv2.admin.ch/f/dokument...sse/moyen.html and supporting documents https://www.estv.admin.ch/estv/fr/ho...dessteuer.html

Albeit, not sure if I'd want to pay the rent in one of the high income communes.

Income isn't everything, Lutry and Pully are one of the highest rents and most sought after parts to live, but both have crappy kindergarter/school systems. The commune of Pully is just beyond stupid on how they manage their funds and what they do for their schools. For example, if you live in Pully but there is no place for your kid at their school, your kid can be sent to Prilly or somewhere else in Lausanne which is 10 km away through the city

Epalinges on the other hand manages the school much much better from what I can hear and see from the outside.

If those communes are not as good, then it’s not a question of money. Because the last two have more than the first two.

I live in Lutry and have taught in Pully for quite a few years, and I’ve never ever heard a kid being sent away?! Moreover the school system is the same in the whole canton. After school daycare varies widely though, and it’s true that in Pully there’s a huge waiting list.

I live in Lutry, and in my opinion they push the kids way too much at school. I’m a teacher, so I know the curriculum. In Lutry they are at least one year in advance if not more. Nice if you have an overachiever kid, but if your child is simply perfectly normal they will struggle to follow and it might impact their self confidence.
