Air Conditioner/Split Recommendations

Hi,
Summer is close and I fear it will be even worse than the previous ones. I'm thinking of installing a strong enough air conditioner, as our house is even warmer than average in general (good for winter, bad for summer).

Is there any recommendation? I want something that doesn't require damaging the flat, as the costs are on me, or difficult installation. Also something that really cools the house/living room and not one of those fancy fans (I already have this and am not much happy).

Is this one any better? https://www.amazon.de/dp/B00GWJLAT8/

All recommendations are welcome. I will be happy if it is less than 400 CHF.

Re: Air Conditioner/Split Recommendations

I'm in exactly the same boat as you and am also considering my options. One basically has three options: Fan (I quite like sleeping with a fan), Evaporation air coolers (Not experienced them) or portable air conditioner.

I'm going to go for the portable air conditioner, but want to ensure that I can get a very good window/door kit for the exhaust, otherwise it just isn't worthwhile. I believe that LG make excellent units, but I'm still starting my search.

Let me know how you get on and I'll do the same.

Re: Air Conditioner/Split Recommendations

If you want something that actually cools, rather than you having to sit in a stream of cool air then you need a split unit, either a portable or fixed. You just need somehow of connecting the inside unit to the outside unit, *or* maybe a twin hose unit but then you also need a way of connecting the hoses to the outside. You'll likely be disappointed with any single hose monoblock unit. Unless you go second hand it'll cost. Fixed split units are not too expensive and can be hooked up without necessarily having to make a lot of alterations but the compressor part would be outside which might annoy your neighbours.

Thanks. Can you point me please to some links? I already got a positive responsive from the landlord. Hope that helps.

The question is what you want/need, how much you're willing to invest, and how easy uninstalling the device needs to be.

The device you linked would help in as far as it does cool, but the trick is getting the warm "waste" air out. Disposing of the warm air as depicted in the 3rd picture works reasonably well in combination with the vertical shutters we have at the office, but those devices aren't quiet and the outlet reduces the window's thermal insulation to marginally better than zero. I would never use those we have at the office in my bedroom, they're even too noisy to watch tv comfortably while they're active. There may be less noisy kinds, no idea. I'd definitely need much lower noise, probably less than 40dB for the bedroom or even less - YMMV.
