could the regie invoice me for this?

Dear all, I live in Geneva and received this from the regie
"nous vous informons que nous avons donné ce jour l’ordre d’exécuter chez vous les travaux suivants, soit : Merci de contrôler les plaques céramiques. L'une des deux plaques semble mal
fonctionner. Le locataire nous informe que le disjoncteur saute lorsqu'il l'allume la plaque à feu doux.
Rapport sur cause et devis si nécessaire.",

I don't know what the last sentence implies. I think the cause is probably that a little water entered under the "bouton de reglage"(photo attached), will I have a risk to pay for the invoice or regie will not invoice me anything? If I have the risk to be invoiced then maybe I will wait a few days to see if the problem is resolved. I tried today with level 3 and it seems to work and when I turn it to mid level 6 the problem happened again: it makes a noise and turned off and the kitchen electricity gets cut

Thanks

Re: could the regie invoice me for this?

As I understand it--

They have informed you that they have proceeded with the work order to control the ceramic [assume stovetop] plates at your place as one of the two plates does not function well. The renter has informed us that the circuit breaker interrupts when turned on low heat. Report on the cause and provide an estimate for the works if necessary.

I believe they will check it and report on what is causing the problem. If it requires repair an estimate of the costs of the repair may be provided depending on what is the cause.

I don't see any picture and there is no mention of water.

Re: could the regie invoice me for this?

Thanks runningdeer actually I understand French. I always struggle to upload photo in EF, anyway it was just to show the button to turn it on as I am not sure the correct English word, nothing special. Do you think there is a risk that they invoice me?

Re: could the regie invoice me for this?

Well as I understand it, it depends...
Also check your rental contract as to what is covered/not covered with respect to repairs. I also assume the stovetop was included in the apartment and not one you installed yourself.

Invoice for sending someone to check--probably
Invoice for repairing it--depends on cause
--probably yes if you did something to cause it (depending on rental contract language);
--probably no if it is an apt. wiring problem or something internal like that (again check what is covered in contract)

Unlikely as it seems to be a fault with the equipment.

Normally you are responsible for minor repairs up to Chf 200.-- or 250.-- but if their is an electrician comming out who replaces a part you should be welll about that threshold.

Thanks "Today only", I think it is probably a small problem caused by some water entered into the button, which is my fault. Do you know what will happen in this case

Thanks, runningdeer. Yes it was included in the apartment. I am more trying to understand my right and obligation legally. As the stipulation in the contract has to conform with Swiss law otherwise it is null and void.

If you broke it by accident.. Then you can claim on your accident insurance?

You are responsible to look after the stuff in your flat, if you break it, you fix it.. If it just broke through old age or some defect, the landlord fixes it.

This, it is thus important to know how old the installation is.

Thanks a lot John, is that a question or affirmation that I can claim on my accident insurance?

Private liability insurance would be the one which might pay if you break other people's stuff by accident. If you have such an insurance (not the one for the car ) check the terms and condition if it might be covered.

From memory, I think stuff like that is written off over 8 or 10 years. But hopefully somebody with more knowledge can put me right.
