Waiting for my deposit

I moved out of my flat many months ago and I've yet to get my deposit back.
The inspection went pretty well, all the official paperwork sorted, only a few minor things to sort out, the money for which was taken out of my final rent (I've got emails and bank records to prove this if they try anything, but it was only a few hundred so....).

The actual deposit however is taking forever to be released into my account.

I understand legally they're allowed to hold it for a year.

But...why would they do this? What could a regie be gaining out of sitting on this deposit? What tricks might they be playing?
Is it typical that they take so long to release the deposit?

What happens at the one year point? Is it still up to them manually to contact the bank and release it? Do I contact the bank with my papers from when i moved out to prove this situation?

Re: Waiting for my deposit

You contact the bank as the account holder, you show the original of the papers you signed at the handover and after 1 year the bank is obliged to release the money

AFAIK it is NOT untypical. I hear the same about my own landlord (and it is stipulated even in the contract I think) and also elsewhere.
From this point of view I would not worry.

If you are not a member of the renters association you should join. They know the law, and your landlord knows they know the law.
