Hanging a rug on the wall?

Hi Everyone -

I've got a nice rug that I'd like to hang on the wall of my dining room.

In other countries, with walls covered in drywall/gypsum/sheetrock, I would use a tack strip screwed or nailed into the wall studs, and then press the rug onto the tack strip.

But with cement walls here (covered in paper, plaster, and whitewash!), how can I hang a rug? Has anyone discovered a solution, or seen what locals do?

Thanks!

Locals do not hang a rug on the wall

If locals want to hang something on a wall they drill a hole into it, insert a nifty invention of a German guy into said hole. Then they screw in a hook or similar suitable thing into the hole in which the invention of Mr. Fischer was inserted. Thanks to the invention, known as a Plastikspreizdübel, the hook or screw will be hold safely and securely in the hole in the wall. The Dübel itself is much older and wooden plugs were used in the past.

Called rawlplugs in the U.K. and invented by a Mr. Rawlings twenty years before Herr. Fischer was born.

To his credit, Herr. Fischer did create the plastic version used today (which would have been impossible for Mr. Rawl at the time.
