Ways to search for housing

Hello,
I am an international Master student at the UZH, and will hopefully graduate in 2020. Right now I am looking to find an apartment to attach for my stay here (I am currently residing at a relative).

My question is: what is the best strategy to find an apartment to rent?
So, should I simply search through homegate.ch, comparis etc., or should I contact directly real estate compannies?
2. Do real estate companies list all their offers online, or if I call them directly they might have other offers?

Thank you
P.S: Yes, there are many FB pages listing, but I actually prefer to have something more formal; anyways, I have a look on them regularly.

Re: Ways to search for housing

In my view, being a foreign student FB Zürich housing listings are you best bet.

Making a simple one page resume about yourself and posting that near mensa (the canteen) or department entrance might help you to find other students who are also looking to rent a place (unless you want to live alone).

Contacting the real estate companies would be waste of time.

In the end, I think you realize that to decide whether to lease you an apartment or not the landlord would check your bank balance or monthly take home.

Unless you have a lot of money in your account or you get large sum of stipend, grouping up with one/two fellow students and renting a place together would be your best option.

Whatever sites you use to search, try using the word "befristet", which means "of limited duration" as those are often people who want to sublet for a while during their travels, or buildings which are going to be renovated or demolished in a year's time. You have a better chance, there, since most other people will be looking for long-term accommodation.

Good luck!
